Well I am new to this, so here we go...

My first race of the year went good for me.  I'm looking forward to improving, but  am happy with my performance.

I'm glad that my day did not follow the start of it - i realized that i had forgotten my chip and number as i pulled up to the race.  Thankfully race timers plan for people like me and had extra.  It was pretty chilly at the start, so i kept some layers on to start with - i'm kind of a pansy in this area - I grew up in star valley wyoming and think i was traumatized by the cold weather.  Or it could be that i sweat a lot and it FREEZES me in cold weather.  Anyhow, i was wearing a snow hat, gloves, long sleeved dry fit shirt (which i planned to shed) and then race singlet underneath.  I wore compression pants (which i am sold on), and then long socks and capris on top of that.  I was surrounded by people wearing shorts and tanks lol.

So after the gun went off, i found myself amongs the top 5 women (1 and 2 had taken off), running with amber green and another girl for the first few miles.  i was trying out my saucony kinoveras that day and i was feeling pretty good.  miles 1 and 2 were right where i wanted them - 6:33 & 6:34.   I sped up trying to maintain my place for the next few miles to 6:26, 6:30, 6:31.  i was maintaining my place, and even moving up on people til mile 6.  a group of 3 women passed me (ugh), including one nice lady who continued to move in front of me and cut me off everytime she did so.  i was just trying to maintain, but slowed a little to 6:36 and 6:37 for the next couple miles.  miles 8-10 had the rolling hills, my times were 6:41, 6:45, 6:45, .  I planned on ditching clothes but still only ditched my hat as i passed the dixie center for the first time.

at this point in the race (heading onto the trail off of river rd) i had 3 ladies within catching distance (amber and erica were a good minute ahead at this point), and no one behind me for a long time.  mile 10 was a 6:39 - i was trying to dig in here and pass some.  mile 11 was 6:44, mile 12 - 6:39 mile 13 - 6:32.  I did pass one lady (the one who was cutting me off:)) and trailed another all the way in.  i had sped up but it wasn't enough.  Out of nowhere a girl sprinted past both of us to the finish line (where did she come from - she wouldn't have been the only one who cut 5 miles off their run that day jk).  Thus pushing me back to 7th place.  final time was 1:26:20.  all but the last minute sprinter were in my age group, but after taking the overall out i placed 3rd in my age group.  I felt good about my time, but need to work on my final push to catch those last ladies:)

I need to remember to run some slow miles after the finish to recover!!  I'm always so glad to be done.  I still had stomach probs afterwards and had to go home early...i need to figure this out!

Today was a nice easy run as i'm still recovering from my race (my abs are sore!)  I did go run some of the course of the dogtown half to get an idea of what it's going to be like.  It was beautiful and sunny at 11 am - wore my tank and shorts which always makes me happy!  I averaged an 8 min mile today, the first few miles felt pretty stiff, but eventually loosened up.  I felt great by the end of the 10 miles!

I taught a core strength class, as well as a flex (strength class) at wash rec today too, but did a lot more teaching than doing.  still trying to get my muscles recovered.

I'm still sore from saturday so didn't push too hard again.  i don't know how people can do speedwork right away after a race.  I did a 60 min spin class and really focused on fast turnover (yes i was way tired), and then ran around the track for 4 miles as that's all i can handle on the track.  My legs usually loosen up after being on the bike but didn't today.  I averaged about 7:30, but it didn't feel easy.  i plan on puting a little speedwork in tomorrow's workout.

got a massage from April Larson....owieee!!!! I'm feeling better though.

My body is soo sore this week from everything - i needed a little speedwork but didn't want to push too much. I ran 5 on the treadmill, and then 4 outside when the babysitter arrived. my first 2 miles were 8 min miles, and then i did 5 min on, 5 min off with speedwork. I sped up to low 6 min miles for 5 min, then off. cooled down last mile. Jumped in the pool and got 1 mile in - i really worked on my glide today, making sure to keep one hand at the top til the other one got there - it felt really good! Finished a pretty easy mile in 35 min. I got a massage on wed so i'm hoping it will help my tight hammys.

I ran a nicely paced 20 miler with aimee langston  today- we ran the hurricane marathon course in the brisk 30 deg weather, but it warmed up about half way through.  Overall a beautiful, fun run!  I wish i could run with someone all the time cause this felt so much easier this day!  Our entire run average was 7:30, but again we weren't pushing speed.  I felt great the whole time and felt like i could sprint it in at the end.  I'm looking forward to the hurricane marathon - if we can keep the wind out of it, i think it will be a great race.  The only yucky part will be the 2-3 mile climb into hurricane on sr-9 at mile 21-23.  that's going to hurt a little.  My right hamstring started to get tight at about mile 16, but never really hurt.  my good old injury is acting up a little, and felt pretty tight on sunday.  I'm rolling and massaging like crazy, so i'm hoping i can stay on top of it!  I want to do speedwork on tues, but will have to see how it's doing first after teaching 3 classes tomorrow.  may get a sub for last two.   grrrr.

The calm before the storm - that was how my run began today.  I got my bum out of bed at 5 pm and managed to get myself out the door.  My running partner, tom, was supposed to meet me at 5:30, and i sent him a text that i was going to be 5 min late.  He waited exactly that long for me - I arrived at 5:36 and he had went home ( all he needed was an excuse that morning).

so dang it, i had to get out in the freezing cold and run intervals by myself - but i did it!  i tried not to look at my watch and push myself hard. I had to run my workout out on the street cause the hurricane track is under construction, so i had lots of uphill in my workout - this was more of a hill training workout for sure. I don't feel like i could go full out too cause some of the streets weren't well lit and i was waiting to step in a pothole any minute.  but anyways i warmed up a mile and then started with 2 x400, then did 5x 800 m with 400 m rest.  first one was 3:01 (had a big uphill in the middle), then 2:54, 3:04, 2:46, 2:59.  i ended with 2 more 400 m intervals.  jim had to get to work so i finished up with 2 more miles on the tread.

right as i finished the lovely wind picked up outside, and has been blowing for 4 days since - so glad i got my run in!

Hard day today too!  I taught my core class and did about half of it, but actually mostly participated in my flex class later that day.  it felt good.  I had to teach a zumba class later that night, but that's more fun than work:)

I'm confined to spin class until this dang weather clears up, so I tried to make it over to wash rec in time to claim a bike (it didn't happen).  I got on the tread and ran 3 miles until i saw that someone left the class.  i did the last 20 min with them and then did 30 min on my own.

I did 2 min intervals  of seated pushing and standing sprints, again focusing on less tension and fast turnover.  The time went by surpisingly fast, though my legs were feeling it that day.  That's how it goes when u only have so much time with your kids in the daycare.  I definitely could've used another 30 min on the bike.  I pushed my luck and got off and went right into 1 more mile on the track at good marathon pace, just for my mental race health.  So i really wish i had more time this day, but you do what you have to do.  I'm glad my kids love that day care.  i made up for my time gone by taking them swimming in the pool.

Dear Wind,

I hate you and hope you die,

love, ty

ok now really i'm sick of it already!!!  it's so much worse in toquerville. I was about to start my journey on the good old treadmill, when my hubby offered to come pick me up 10 miles south (heck ya i'll run with the wind to my back).  It's a pretty hillly course over there, but i was up for the challenge!

so miles 1-3 were effortless running easily  in 7:30s, miles 4-5 the course backtracks for a half a mile, and i was ready to give up cause i was now running into the wind.  i felt pretty lightheaded, and realized i prob waited a little too long to run after eating.  i had a gel, and that gave me a huge boost.  So even with all the hills i averaged a 7:40 - i love you wind.   though i didn't realize until that day that hurricane ran east and west, so i ended up running with the wind to my side (and into the wind) for the last 4 miles - i hate you wind..  i think it almost tripped me 3 times by pushing my feet over.  my right hamstring ligament started buggin a little, but nothing much.  i'll attack it with my foam roller and softball tonight.

So all in all, a pretty easy/hard 10 miles today

taught zumba at night and no aches or pains,  i foam rolled well after my run and it seems to have pushed all my soreness out.

I didn't wake up early enough to run before my swim, so i had to settle for less today.  i had 1.5 hours to workout, and i talked for too much of it with my friends.  i swam a mile, doing 100 m intervals for the last 20 laps.  I've been focusing on matching my arms, and because of that i had my head up watching them - my friend pointed out that it was out of the water. so i tucked my head and felt so speedy today!  i jumped out of the pool, ran upstairs, and finished with 4 miles on the tread at 8 mpm.

Great run today!  i started at 8:30 and the weather was good.  A tad brisk but halfway through very pleasant.  I ran with amber today, and it made the whole run go by sooo fast.  We ran the course for the dogtown half marathon - will b a good hilly course...and stinky cause it goes by the landfill.

Most of the course is slightly downhill, though i didn't feel it til we came back on the unhills. We ran first 8 miles at 7:10-7:30 min per mile. miles 9-12 we sped up for 5 min rested for 3. I'm not sure what the first one was, but here were my other pace splits...5:56, 6:26, 7:13(up a big hill).  next 2 miles we finished the uphill and then did tempo.  i was feeling good and pushed my pace a little to 6:30. cooled down last mile.

I'm feeling good about where i'm at right now!  I hope to add a few miles on next week and peak at 55-60 miles beore the marathon.

My friend sue watchd my kids so i could go run today, so i  did my tempo run out in washington fields. Thank goodness cause the wind was blowing like crazy in toqueville!  There was still a good breeze going, but wasn't too bad.

Started out today teaching core fusion - didn't do too much of it since we were out of equipment.

I started out and knew that it wasn't going to be a fabulous run.  I was warming up on a downhill, and i was already feeling sluggish. so i did another mile to see if it would wear off. my tempo felt hard today!  i don't know if it was because i was by myself or what.  I stopped looking down at my watch and just tried to go by feel.  I was trying to run in the 6:20s but it just didn't happen today. The first couple varied from uphill to just slightly up.

my miles:

3 - 6:47 ( had a hill)

4 - 6:32 - slightly up

5 - 6:35 - slightly up

6 - 6:32 -

7 - 6:35

8 - 6:41 - slightly up

I'm adding more miles this week since i'm training for the hurricane marathon so i ran 11 instead of 10.  i def could've stopped at 10 today!

Taught flex tonight and worked the push ups with my group!  feeling good there.  legs r way tired.

I've been foam rolling everyday and massaging with a softball and that seems to have brought my hamstrings up to par.  no more threat of injury!

Ran the watertower trail out by my house by myself today. I added on the loop for more miles.   it was beautiful at 3 pm and i was stoked to wear my shorts, but still a little windy.  (seemed to hit in all directions too...hmmm).  The trail was hilly, sandy, and rocky, so i got an incredible workout today.  I was feeling good since i didn't get a workout in yesterday, so i did some speedwork.

warm up 1 mile -

4x 3.5 min intervals with 2.5 min rest

1 - very uphill and rocky- 7:28

2 - 6:12 - more uphill to down

3.- 6:49 - sandy!

4 - 7:05 - all uphill and rocky - was breathing really hard by this point

4x 2 min intervals with 1.5 min rest

1. - 6:01 - sandy downhill into wind

2.- 6:21 - very sandy

3. - 7:04 - sandy/uphill

4. - 6:12 -flat

4x1min intervals with 45 sec rest - all still rocky so i had to be careful

1 - 5:59

2 -6:47 - uphill

3 - 6;12 -

3 - 6:38 - uphill

had acrued 7.5 miles to this point, so finished up with 3.5 to get home at about 7:30s. I felt good today - feel like i had pushed myself.

I got to the gym a little early, so i got a couple of miles in on the track before my swim since i knew i wanted to swim longer today.  They felt really hard going at an 8 mpm pace, - i felt really light - headed.  i bought a lemonade to get some extra sugar and it seemed to have helped.

swim - warm up from 20 laps, worked on matching hands for 20 laps, and then did a sprint tri athlon distance push - i had my girl aimee next to me pushing me:)  I ended up doing 80 laps 1.25 mi - i need to watch the clock next time to see if i'm getting faster at all.  i concentrated on longer stokes and head down today - prob the best i've felt in a while swimming.

i jumped out and ran to get my last 2 miles on the treadmill in.  i wanted to run a lot more but ran out of time again.

I didn't originally plan on going this long but just felt like it was a good number that morning.  well really i wanted to get one 22 mi in before the hurrican marathon, and today was the day (races for the next 3 weeks).

Ran with liz, aimee, mandi, and cheri, today (well sort of) - started with them, but  knew i had a time limit today so had to pick it up.  i ran the 1st 5 miles with aimee, which included the la verkin twist.  i was feeling kind of poopy, but once i hit that trail i got reenergized (i love trails!!!)  I easily picked it up going up the hill, and then waited for the girls.  after the first water stop, i took off, as they were only doing 15 that day.  i want to do this run again, so i'm posting my miles. i ran on the trail which was a lot of up and down all the way to virgin, and then turned down sheepsbridge rd.  i had to add 2 more miles at la verkin overlook.

6: 7:29

7: 7:46 (next 7 uphill into virgin, then uphill on sheepsbridge)

8: 7:48

9:7:48

10 7:53

11 7:13

12 7:11

13 7:46

14 7:48

15 - 8:08

16 - 7:57

17 - 7:30

18- 7:17

19 - 7:08

20 - 6:37

21 -7:06 (last 2 miles were very uphill, but i pushed it all the way in)

22 -7:27

I was tired by the end, but could've kept going today - does that mean i'm not pushing enough???  I'm sure it's just the trail running that i love!!I need to have someone speedy come with me and do it again.  My hamstring got tight, but all in all a great run:)

Well my 1 yr old was sick today, so i spent most of the day holding him and my chances of getting a run in slowly slipped away.  Thankfully, i had to be at the gym at 6:30 pm to train my biggest loser contestants, so i told myself to run a couple miles.

My original plan was to run 10-11 + speedwork, but i didn't think i'd be able to do it since i had been up with isaac the whole night before.  I started on the treadmill about 8 pm, and almost psyched myself out, i almost let myself go home.  I told myself if i ran 2 miles i'd feel a lot better, then i could make up the miles tomorrow morning.  I got a mile into it, and got myself to commit to 5.  I was getting bored, so I decided to do one of the 4 x 1 mile intervals with a mile break in between.  I found that i could hold my 6 min mile pretty well, and at that point i just committed to the whole workout i had originally planned.  I ran all the intervals:)  My times were 1 - 6 min 2 - 5:56,  3 - 5:53, 4 - 5:55.   I'm way happy with my effort, and it felt good to get my miles in under 6 min.  My  legs are definitely tired after that 10 miles.

i didn't make it to spin class today, so today was another treadmill day at home.  i decided to do my own strength routine beforehand.  i didn't want to make myself too sore since i have 3 weeks of races so i did enough to exhaust myself, but not kill me:)

1st round                           2nd round

50 box jumps                     30

20 pull ups - 5 without assist

50 squat to upright row      30

30 burpees w/ squat jump   20

30 lunge, accelerate up on chair   20

50 knee drops (abs)             40

I ran 6 miles on treadmill at about 7:45- 8:00 pace

My sister in law watched my kids so i could go running in the middle of the beautiful sunny day!  i was so stoked to be able to run in the sun in shorts, though prob should've kept the gloves on.  I decided to tackle the hills on the cholla creek trail, running through the rock quarry and circling around in la verkin.  I ran at a pretty good pace for first half, and then kicked it up for the last 4 (6:20-6:50).   They all had lots of steep hills so i was pretty happy with my run.  i waited too long to eat, and was feeling a little light headed.  amazingly i can always make it through those times.  i will bring 2 gels with me next time.

i didn't have time to get a full meal in before having to leave to teach zumba, and yes it killed me!  I had a couple pieces of toast, and felt very bloated and had no energy:)  i need to plan better.

Race Week #1 - Dam to Dam

I woke up about 1 am that morning to pouring rain, and several other times to the same pounding on my roof.  Not a good sign.  The race started at 10, so i was able to sleep in until 7:30 (heaven:)).  i would've slept later but mr. isaac (my 1 year old) is an early riser.  Another glance outside showed that the rain wasn't going to relent, so jim and i wavered on whether to run or not.  We were both battling colds.  I checked around with my friends, and it sounded like everyone was still going.  We couldn't disappoint!

So we showed up to sandhollow, and i did a little 1 mile jog into the park.  I knew i might have a tough time that day the way i was already breathing at my slower pace.  i didn't know how to dress to actually race that day cause the rain would stop, then start again over and over.  I get so chilled easily, but all the clothes i was wearing felt heavy.  i didn't end up ditching anything ( i was wearing 2 socks, capris and compression pants, a short sleeve and long sleeve tech shirt, and a water proof light jacket.  then a cap, and ear warmers).  I hated all of it at one point, and was thankful at another.

I had decided that i was only going to run as fast as i had to, and wasn't running for time.  The course was 1/2 on dirt, and the weather was awful.  So hopefully no one would make me have to push to hard.  unfortunately, one girl from salt lake decided to make me race that day.  My first mile felt sluggish, and my breathing was not good.  She was talking to a guy she was running with, and seemed to easily keep pace.  I stuck with her for the first 3 miles, but i was pushing it.  i was trying not to look at my watch cause i knew that i wasn't running a fabulous pace.  mile 4 she started pulling away (and was in front of all the guys too).  i was concentrating on my mental game, but knew my body wasn't responding.  at the halfway point, 1st place was still only about 30 sec ahead, and a quick glance behind me showed me that 3rd wasn't close.  (I was running 6:30-6:40s) and just not feeling it.  I wasn't worth it to me to kill myself to catch 1st, so i pretty much just slugged it in the rest of the way.  i want to have a strong race next saturday, so i just used the rest as a training run.  my pace slowed into the low 7s after i stepped in mud and added another pound to my shoes.  we were running uphill and into some increasingly nasty mud.  then the wind kicked in, and i got incredibly chilled.  the last 3 miles were torture as my legs felt sooo heavy from being soaked and cold

so i averaged a 6:50 and ran 1:08. 2nd overall,  it is what it is.  The worst part was after the race - i had forgotten to get the key back from my hubby, and he didn't come in til 20 min later - I was frozen..  i ran out to him and ran the last mile with him to make it less miserable:)  so proud of him:)

so i'm looking forward to a dryer, faster, less muddy course next week (hopefully).

Taught core fusion today - did a lot of the work out - especially my abs - they r sore!  hamstrings are too.

I'm was feeling sore today from my race last sat (don't know why, iididn't push it much), but i decided not to kill myself on my tempo run today.  I am following ryan hall's 1/2 marathon plan, with more miles of course, so i plan to taper a little this week.  I warmed up for 1 mile then sped it up to 1/2 marathon pace + 10 - 15 sec for 3 miles.  I ran from the rec center, to washington fields, then up and back dam road.   here r my splits

6:16 - downhill

6:46 - uphill

6:39 - uphill, then down

finished running 7 miles at 7:30-8:30 pace

I felt like the speed wasn't pushing me too much, and i feel pretty good. my quads were a little sore from class today, so i'll make sure i roll em. I hear it's going to rain this weekend though:( not again!

Taught flex tonight and trained, didn't do much of the workout, but having to demonstrate everything made me a little bit sorer today.  hope it wears off by the weekend.

My quads were still fried from all the workouts - can't figure it why since last week's race was not a push for me.  I decided to taper for the race this weekend and only run 7 miles instead of 10 or 11. it felt really good, and the trail i ran was exhilarating.  i ran in shorts, which always makes me happy, and ran the water tower loop.  i added a few faster jaunts in the middle, speeding up especially down the hills.  I was happy that my sub 7 min miles were feeling pretty easy.  averaged 7:38 today.

This race turned out a little better than i expected, so i'm happy with it.  I woke up to pouring rain in toquerville, and was wanting to just crawl back into bed.  I really wasn't looking forward to the race at all and was so tempted to back out.  I knew i'd never forgive myself, so i got myself dressed and headed over.  My tummy was hurting well before the race, but a few trips to the bathroom seemed to help.

It was nice for this race cause i didn't have a lot of expectations.  I was going to focus more on the race, and less about my time.  a p.r. is always nice, but i knew that with the wind blowing that would be a tall order.  i knew michelle l.and amber g. would both be there, so i would have some tough competition.

i kept a lot of my clothes on (double layered again - i'm such a baby), and was amazed again at all the tank tops and shorts around me at the start.  i'm still glad i wore what i wore, though i ditched my beanie halfway through.  i was a little nervous about it but i decided to run withou my ipod today.  i seemed to be distracting in my last race and wanted to see if it made a difference.  I really liked it without.  I felt like i could focus more on the race - see who was breathing hard - hear encouragement from friends, etc.

I spent a little too long talking to people at the beginning, and got less of a mile of a warm up in.   I felt good after the gun went off though.  we ran through a nice pile of mud in the first mile, and it seemed to slip some people up (i run in this junk all the time).  my mile prob would have been a little faster without that.  anyhow here's my splits

1 - 6:35 - stuck close to amber, michelle ahead a little bit - my body was feeling good

2 - 6:41 - into the wind but flat - usually amber wont let me pass her (love ya girl) but i managed to do it here

3. -6:31 - wind at side, slight uphill - I'm motivated to get some distance between me and girls behind me (amber and then a couple others not to far behind)

4. - 6:41 - more wind, up and downhill

5 - 6:40 - i know my pace isn't fabulous at this point, but again focusing more on keeping place

6 - 6:49 - some uphill

7 - 7:08 - the biggest hill of race - pretty gradual but long- into the wind

8 - 6:57 - turn around - amber still not too far behind

9 - 6:47 -

10 - 6:25 - i want to secure my position - michelle is not in sight anymore, wanted to take advantage of downhill - i'm starting to feel a little pukey - i think i hadn't drank enough water at this point - I loved seeing all my friends at the turn around!  so motivating

11 - 6:49 - i held my position and wasn't motivated to book it in since i wasn't being challenged- had a side ache - my legs were feeling pretty good though

12 -6:47

13 - 6:37- I'm exerting effort, but prob could've done more if needed. side ache still there???

.27 - 6:50 - course was a little long, and i wasn't sure if i was running the right way.  that is not a normal pace to kick it in for me.

so 6:44 pace - i'll take it today.  Part of me wonders if i could've stayed with michelle, but i really shouldn't 2nd guess. I like how i didn't wait to fuel and felt like it helped.  I need to drink more water next time and get there earlier to warm up.  i also didn't cool down.  overall good day though!

started the day teaching core fushion - didn't do most of it

Well today was great and not so great.  i wanted to run the course for the sand hollow marathon and get a feel for the hills.  i started at mile 5 where it turns off the main rd.

So i started out and i was simply amazed how great my legs felt. i'm running the lake to lake relay this weekend and knew my miles weren't going to be more than 10 then.  so i wanted a semi long one.  Anyhow, i was easily running 7:30 -7:40 - which is always a shock the week after running a race.  The hill the leads to nemisis felt pretty long, and i'll have to be mindful that it's longer than it looks.  i charged down nemisis, and ran the rolling hills in sand hollow.  I love it!  my legs were flying.  i was just cruising up the hills at 7:10, and was hardlly breathing.

At mile 8 i turned around and that's where things went not so great.  I started getting a pain in my side - it felt familiar cause that is what i had felt on sat during miles 9-13 of my race.  i thought it had been a side ache.  it was now apparent that i had done something to my ab muscles on my right side.  too much turbokick and zumba??? i don't know.

anyways, so the pain increased as i ran, and at several points i had to stop and walk.  when i massaged it, i could get it to go away for a bit. when i ran uphill it went away.  it got worse on downhills (abs stretching out more).  By mile 14 i was pretty frustrated, but last 2 miles felt ok.  it was there but bearable.  I still managed to finish with a few 7:10s.  my miles 9-11 were 7:40s and then nemisis was 8:20ish.  13-16 were low 7s again.  So i was very happy about my fitness level today - especially post race and up hills!  I wasn't planning to push my pace today, but had just gone with what i felt.  I am very worried about the ab pain.  I can't tell if its the rectus abdominus, or obliques, but it'sjust on the right side in the middle.  it was bad enough to make me stop a few times.

7:30 average pace today

i trained big loser contestants, and then taught my class afterwards.  the pain seemed manageable and i didn't think to much of it.  hopefully it's not bad!  i plan on taking tomorrow off of running

iced and massaged the part that hurts on abs - brrr - seems to be 2 spots.

I woke up today and realized that i was supposed to sub a turbokick class - dang it.  so much for taking a rest day.

abs bugged me at times but not horribly.  They felt worse afterward than they did beforeand kind of ached all day.  after icing  several times and pounding the ibuprofen, they feel much better.  i'm worried about the relay this weekend - though i'll only run it if i'm feeling ok.  i've got to remember it's not as important as my marathon!

On a side note, i put a wrap around my belly - kind of corset - like - and tried running back and forth in the back yard.  it seemed fine, though i obviously couldn't breathe as well.  I'm going to get a sub for zumba, and then bike tomorrow.  i may try wrapping it to keep it warm and compressed and then running a few miles to see if it's ok.  I really don't think the ab tear is extremely serious because i'm still able to do so much with little pain.  hopefully good news tomorrow.

Yay!  i ran today!  it was on the treamill, and the first 2 miles were super slow, but i wrapped my abs and went for it.  I could feel them at times, but definitely not jarring like tuesday.  i sped the last few miles up (8 min, 7:30, 7:00, 6:30, 6:08) to see how they were doing at faster speed.  seems to be ok, so i'm staying on for the relay.

I decided that i was going to get it done today, even if i did have to wrap abs again - (ugh makes it hard to breathe).  Jim didn't have to be to work til 10, so i was in heaven being able to get my workout in without my kids.  I had 2.5 hrs before he'd drop isaac off, and i wanted to let my abs rest from running a little more. soooo i did a little triathlon.  i got .75 miles of swimming in, then jumped out to go to renee's spin class.  i was not positioned on the bike right, cause my knee and hip felt awful.  i kept having to stop and stretch it out.  soo, i don't feel like i pushed very hard, but did get an hour in.  i ran out of time at the end and only got 2 miles of running in around the track. abs were there, but not too bad.

met up with my ladies to decorate the van and discuss strategy for tomorrow's race.  i didn't think we'd have to try too hard to win tomorrow. little did i know......

Lake to Lake relay!!!!  I was looking forward to a stress free race day today, and hanging out with some fun girls:)

I started my day today at 5 am with very little sleep (thank u evan and isaac for your middle of the night play session that kept me awake).  I dragged myself out of bed at 5 am to be at Ambers' by 6.  We wanted to run a little before, but it didn't happen. We were too busy striping our faces, using our hair dye, and just getting ready.  i loved how it looked at the end:)  we were the red sheebraz (zebras - get it), though we did have people ask us if we were cats????? we must have been really drunk drawing on those whiskers.

so my team did so great that day!  the start was fast, but kari kept up the ladies. brooke also ran a great split.  we got a couple warm up miles in which made me happy.  but  by leg 3, amber had some work to do. she really put us in a good position - it didn't look like any teams were going to be too competitive.  i just wanted to have fun, get some kills, and run some good tempo miles.  i wore my ab wrap for my leg cause it was so downhill and those seemed to hurt it the worst.  it did constrict breathing a little, but glad i wore it.  i ran these legs last year in the same race, but my computer crashed sometime last year and didn't have the times to compare it to:(  i do remember that on this particular leg i had averaged in the 6:20s, so i had a goal of beating that.  this leg was gradual downhill, so i pushed myself a little.  here r my splits

1 - 6:15 - a little uphill in there

2 - 6:07

3- 6:02

4 -6:09 - flattens out

5 -6:09

.19 - 5:37

6:08 average

I was pretty pleased with my splits cause it was pushing me, but i didn't get any leg tiredness.  this really tells me that i'm already in a much better position than i was last year;)

michelle took it away and killed it of course. we were way ahead and everyone was looking good til leg 6.  poor kari took a wrong turn, and ended up adding almost 5 miles onto her 4 mile leg.  We knew after 40 min had gone by that something was wrong.  we just had to sit and wait til she figured it out cause it was all on trail - we wouldn't be able to find her anyways.  after 1 hr and 20 min, amber went looking.  thankfully she eventually came in, but we had given up on the idea of first place.  amazingly she had still kept her determination  The next team had came and gone at least 30 min before then.

but there was always hope, so we started our second legs with new determination.  Brooke made up some good time, and then amber busted out another great leg as well.  we were gaining on people we thought had been long gone.  By the time amber finished leg 8, we were back in 2nd place!  The blue team had left right when we had gotten there, so they had a good 8-10 min on us still.  i had the "hardest" leg, though it really didn't feel too bad.  i drank a 5 hour energy right before and wonder if that helped???  not sure what the % grade on that was (at least 10% is my guess), but it was pretty steep - and bumpy!  i did have fun trying to avoid sprain an ankle from all the deep ruts in the dirt. at one point on the hill i looked down and i was in the 6:40s.  wow, wasn't expecting that.  i didn't really feel the uphill til the last part of my leg where it has a longer hill that seems to have stretched on.

1 - 6:45 - up that hill - happy bout that;)

2 - 6:50

3 - 6:26 - rolling hills - still in the dirt

4 - 6:48

5 - 6:51

so average 6:43 - last year i know that was in the 7:20 range - though we did have wind then.

when i got in i found out that blue team was now only 3 min and 40 sec ahead of us.  really!  we were pretty sure michelle would catch her, but stacy (their runner) was holding her own and fighting for it.  they started going around the lake and then we couldn't watch any more.  in those last 2 miles, michelle beat her and victory was oh so sweet.  the day had been so much more challenging and so fun!  go team sheebraz!

i had some good talks with some great runners, and am inspired to do more and be even more committed.

first thing is, i need a training schedule.  i  don't know what to follow, or what to do this year.  right now i'm focused on a getting a good time (and place) at the sand hollow marathon.  yes it will be a pretty challenging course, but i think it's do-able. i don't know if a sub 3 hour will be possible on that course cause of the monstrous hill at mile 18, but i would love to get a 3:05 or better.  that would be fabulous.  3:10  would be great.  i am confident that i can beat my time at st. george marathon.    3 weeks baby!

secondly, after my chat with michelle and amber, i'm realizing i need to change my mental thinking about what's possible for me to acheive.  i know sometimes i stand in my own way.  i has some great splits today, and prob could have held that pace for a while.  i'm going to work on setting higher goals and working harder for them.

soooo, im inspired and tired today - i need  a nap.  great day though

Good write up! I think I will refer people to your blog for the play by play. You are an incredible runner, that is a killer pace for your 9th leg. There is a reason they give special awards to runners who do the ninth leg--it's definitely the hardest.

I ran with the race team today, and it was a great run!  Mostly anyways.  i knew i might b in trouble cause i hadn't ate lunch until 2 and we left at 5.  But it was great push, and running with them made the middle paces feel a little easier.

Well i was going to treat this run like a tempo run, though it was just a recovery run for everyone else:)We gradually sped up, and by mile 4 or 5 we were running in the high 6 s.  they started bringing it in at mile 6, and i tried to stay with them.  i felt really free and solid that mile (6:08) but then my stomach officially sta having problems, and i couldn't push through it (or find a bathroom).  i slowed to 6:26, and then 6:28 for last 2.5 miles.   so slower than i wanted it to be that day, but it was great to have the company and people to push me.

I had to train someone and then head to teach zumba after that - i was wiped out.  my tummy was still hurting and i had zero energy!  a lot of faking it.

I got more than 50 miles in this week and i'm totally happy with that!  with my crazy schedule that's a huge accomplishmeent.  For Utah Valley marathon i'm going to shoot for 60's and 70's when i'm not training so many clients.

K so I'm happy with today's run.  Met up with the guys on the race team, and amber and ran 20 miles.  10 easy pace and 10 tempo (well 9 then i jogged the last one in).  we averaged 7:30 on the first 10, then 6:40 on the next half.  It's been so great running with the guys and amber cause they keep a great pace.  we lost them when they sped up of course, but amber kept me going.  I was surprised how solid i felt the whole time - now that i know the course i'd like to push it even harder next time, but i was really happy about our pace.  It never felt too hard, and was good for me mentally.  by mile 19 i could feel it in my gluteal region ( a few hills on this), and it started to feel a little stiffer.  we pushed in with a 6:20 something on the last mile.  Anyways, I'm feeling ready for my first marathon of the year!

halfway in i started to feel that spot on my abs, but as long as i focused on not leaning back, especially downhills, it didn't get worse.  it's sore today, but i'll massage and ice and hopefully it's fine.  if i can make 20, i  can make 26.

I had some gatorade and 2 gels on this run - though i could've used more.

I was really excited to run in the beautifual weather today!

i started out with core class, and made them do a little more pilates and yoga.  it felt good to stretch out a bit myself.  Lots of balance and ball work - so my core muscles got worked!

I finally got out to run at 12 - my neighbor volunteered to watch my kids  - otherwise it would've been all on the dreadmill.

I ran towards la verkin through cholla creek and stopped on 3 different steep hills.I ran 800m up, 800 m jog at the top, and then 800 m back down the hill. My first, steepest hill up averaged a 6:55, 2nd was 6:49, and 3rd was 6:48.  On the downhills, i averaged 5:30, 5:23, and then the 3rd less steep hill was 5:48.  I got pretty worried cause my downhill sprints  were making my abs hurt again.  on the 2nd hill, it even felt like it was twinging.  By the time i got down, it was a little hard to breathe and i had to massage it a bit.  ahhhh. My abs were sore the rest of the time, but not too horribly.  got to call april and have her work it out.

So 11 miles in today.  My regular pace seemed pretty slow today - it was slow!  Don't know why.  I need someone to push me i guess.

I trained my 2 big loser contestants at night, and then taught flex.  I'm getting good at not doing most of it since my body was already exhausted!

I went to see april today to massage my abs instead of going to spin - I'm so glad i did.  She quickly found that my obliques were not in the fan shape they were supposed to be, but all twisted up.  Sooo, after a painful 30 min, she managed to get them normal.  She said my back on the opposing side was also extremely tight and was pulling my hip on that side higher.  Hopefully it's all good now.

Got a nap in with the kids and felt ready to go for my run when jim got home.

Today was supposed to be recovery, but man i again felt sooo slow.  I didn't feel slow in my body, but when i looked down at my pace several times, i couldn't believe it was that bad.  I guess my body needed that pace today, so i averaged 8:10.  I ran the watertower trail, and then finished up around toquerville.  I'm doing tempo tomorrow, so hopefully the break i gave my body will be worth it.

abs were sore from the massage - they didn't seem to get worse during my run.  i could feel them, but it wasn't jarring.  hopefully they r ok.

got up this morning and just felt like running.  ran 2.5 miles on the tread

club run at night.  It was fun laughing with steve, amber, and aaron, and challenging running into the wind.  averages were higher, but i figure it was because of that. i definitely didn't have enough to eat that day, and my stomach was still bugging.  I need to figure this out!

sped up the last 3.5 miles or so.  i forgot my watch but amber ran a 6:30, and then a 6:10 with me.  i felt like i kept low 6's for the rest, and caught up to steve and aaron by the end.  My abs started hurting a bit on the last mile but not bad.

abs did, however, really hurt by the end of zumba that night.  dang it!!!!

One week until the marathon!  I'm actually excited and confident for this one.  now if my abs will just hold up....

I ran my last longer run until the marathon today.  I started from the marathon start, and did an out and back on the course.  I wanted to keep a steady pace, and throw in a couple of miles at marathon pace.  Well lucky for me today the wind was blowing at me for the first half.  no seriously  I was actually glad for it cause i wanted to mentally prepare myself that this is what it could be like next week.  the weather isn't looking too happy for next saturday, which usually means wind for sand hollow.  so if there is wind, i'm hoping we get it blowing at us for the first half.   When i turned around today i just flew!  so i averaged 7:29 today, and then did a 6:40 and a 6:34 for my marathon pace miles.  They felt easy:)

I was hoping that by wrapping my abs, they wouldn't hurt.  it may have helped prolong it, but i could really feel them (painful) at mile 10. And i don't know what it is, but it always starts at mile 9.  well i made myself push through, and by mile 11 they had eased.  they were prob just inflammed at that point, but i think they will b able to hold out for the marathon.  i'll rest after that.  hoping that taper miles will help them to heal next week too.  this problem started when i started running in my new shoes (kinveras)  and i'm wondering how that could have caused it.  too much too soon in them?  I run once a week in them, but everytime i have since that race it's made it worse. i love them though!

by the time night came around, i was ok.  got on the tread and did 8 miles, 2 at marathon pace.  i had my ab wrap on, but don't know if it helped or not.  obliques were a little sore by the end.

kids now have my flu:(  lots of snuggling with them today and lots of rest for me:)  i massaged my abs a ton and got them to feel a bit better.  I went out and ran 4 miles just to get out, and everything felt good.  abs are a little sore again, so will dig into them tomorrow again.  can i do a marathon when they are in this condition?

I went to the chiro today and he got everything adjusted.  then i had hubby massage my back.  i really think my problem is coming from tight obliques in the back.  it was mighty painful.  I will really have to take it easy next week to get these things to heal.

I decided to run the marathon, but will have my husband check on me a couple of times to see if i want to finish. this marathon isn't worth injuring myself further.  I'm also hoping my lost fluids from the last couple days won't kill me.  I want to take it easy the next couple days - may not even run.

Oh TY!!! sounds like a rough week especially when you have a marathon saturday! You are smart to take it easy.

Honestly, you have so much energy and courage I'm thinking you will have a great race Saturday regardless of your injury and flu this week. Just listen to your body, , ,I'll be cheering you on!!! It's been so fun to run with you lately, you inspire me :)

taught zumba tonight with half effort - good news abs were ok. I had my hubby massage my back (obliques) last night, and it seemed to have helped the abs, but back is way sore. I think that's what's causing the ab pain.

So i still cant believe i'm running a marathon on saturday! i haven't exactly rested as much as i could, or mentally prepared really. Maybe that will be really good in the long run cause i won't stress about it and will just go run. Maybe tomorrow it will hit me a little more.

i apologize beforehand for the long race report.  This entry is not for the faint of heart, i'm just warning ya.

What a day!  The good news first.  Today's course was tough, and i walked away feeling good about it.  Even though there weren't a ton of racers today, i pushed myself and feel way  good about my race prospects for the rest of the year!

I knew last night that there wasn't going to be many ladies that would be tough competition.  My friend aimee is always tough, and i knew i'd have to keep my eye on her. But i decided to just try and run strong no matter what.  I had good, better, best time goals to meet.  since st george marathon was a disaster, i just had to beat that time (3:13). better would be sub 3:05, and best would be sub 3:00.

I had the flu earlier in the week, but had felt good the past couple of days and got lots of rest.  i was excited for this marathon though cause i love the course, and i was feeling strong everytime i ran it.

I didn't get the sleep i wanted cause jim was camping and i had to get the kids to bed on my own.  i had to foam roll everything and massage my abs cause i wasn 't feeling terribly fresh.  But lack of sleep never seems to get to me, and i felt ready when i woke up at 6 am.  The race started at 7:30, and it felt great to start it a little bit later.  I didn't get much of a warm up in, but the pace felt good after starting.  i wore my race singlet, capris, arm warmers, and compression socks, but the only thing that was freezing was my hands (the whole time).  Weather was in the 40s to 50s for the whole race.  The rain that we got later on certainly didn't help.

I started out running the first 4 miles with steve hooper, and then he pulled away a little ( i love that this was his "training run")  I wanted to try and stay with him, but i wanted to make sure i could make it back and was being cautious with my ab injury.  There weren't any ladies around for a while, just a couple running center guys (james holt was behind for a while and joe (i think) out in front) and steve.  i pretty much ran on my own the whole time, and honestly really liked it.  It was great scenery and i loved just going into my little world on my run.  Had stomach problems after mile 8 - grrrr.  turned out to be more than i thought.

so here r my splits

miles 1-6 - terrain was slightly uphill to flat - pace felt pretty effortless

6:38 , 6:45, 6:31, 6:35, 6:43, 6:46

mile 7 - 6:50 first climb - hill was long but gradual - maybe 6-7% incline - kept my pace up it

mile 8-6:28 downhill -nemisis -  definitely could have cruised down it but held back cause thats what tends to bother my abs - pains were coming and going in my abs but never stayed - yay!

miles 9-11    6:40, 6:46, 7:19 -  legs still feeling good on the rolling hills, but, i started to have weird stomach problems. it wasn't my ab muscles, but felt like it was right underneath them.  i was also getting some runner's stomach (dangit) and knew a potty brake was imminent soon.  so that came at mile 11 - my hands were so cold it made the process slower than i wanted.  anyhow, thats why it was 7:19.

miles - 12-13        6:53, 6:46 - half marathon time was 1:28 - i was stoked and still feeling strong with the exception of stomach probs, got a drive by visit from my honey and felt reinvigorated

miles 14 - 16         6:53, 7:00, 7:06 - ouch  - hills are rollling up more than down and stomach is not feeling good - weird stomach pain getting worse along with runner's stomach - - the next girl is at least 2 miles behind me

miles -17-7:11  bathroom stop # 2, i made it snappy

mile - 18 - 8:31 THE WALL - seriously felt like i was running up one going up nemisis.  I don't know the % incline on that but it was nasty.  at one point my watch said 9 min mile!

mile 19 -20   6:43, 7:06 - got my legs moving again - terrain goes down then  up

mile 21 - 8;04 bathroom stop # 3 - felt sorry for the guy behind me as this was not a porta potty stop - emergency:(  i officially had no shame at the point - i did warn him though

miles 22 - 26    7:23, 7:13, 7:00, 7:06 - This was supposed to be slightly downhill into town, but didn't feel like it!  The rain had started pouring, and i was chilled to the bone.  If felt like i had weights on my legs but i was still moving.  Amber's word, Courage, kept going through my head.  i was wanting to slow so badly but kept going:)

mile .2 6:01 ran it in.  Felt great to take first!

I took gels at 5, 9, 13, 17, 23 - felt like i had plenty of water with it

that's part 1 of my day

Part 2 - I went in the building. and stomach immediately starts getting worse.  i tried to chug down some soda, and water, but it made it worse.  i wanted to wait around for friends to come in and awards ceremony, but i was about ready to lose it in many ways.  i got my sweet sandstone arch trophy (thank u) and $100 to classic sports (double thank u!).

Got home, and things went downhill...fast. i was shaking from being so cold from the rain and went against my better judgement with a hot bath.  sorry but this is a tad gorey.  turn back now if you have a sensitive stomach! i was feeling pretty nauseated, but food and water were making everything hurt so much worse. Well to skip all gorey details, i ended up on the bathroom floor in the fetal position waiting for an ambulance to come.  my father in law had called cause i wasn't exactly functioning.  i would have protested but didn't have a choice. it felt like i was passing a kidney stone or something like it.  i have had pretty nasty runner's stomach before but this was worse.  Lets just say there was blood where there shouldn't have been.

so ambulance came (oh my gosh.....so embarrassing!!!) They had to coax me to get on the stretcher, and had a painful ride to the hospital.  by the time i got there, the i.v., antinausea, and pain meds had helped a bit.  the pain had been going for 5 hours, and they gave me a heavy duty stronger than morphine pain releiver and i felt like crying from the relief.

I spent 7 hours at the hospital, getting many ivs and tests.  they determine that i had tears in the section of my colon that is in my upper abdomen, and that everytime food and water was passing through it, i was experiencing that pain.  i was extremely dehydrated on top of that. What caused it?  The doc said that i was probably down and out still from my flu earlier in the week.  throwing up and looseness, shall i say, can cause tears in the colon if they are bad.  Well they prob would've healed on their own, but the marathon made it worse.  it wasn't getting the blood flow that it needed to heal during the run, and it just made it worse.  then anytime food, water, gel, whatever were pushed through, i was in pain.  and i got so dehydrated cause i didn't drink enough cause it hurt. ok, so enough of the grossness!

2 crappy post marathon experiences in a row make me not want to do anymore dang it.  if anyone has input on other fueling options than gel in marathons, i would love to hear them.  I think it gives me stomach aches in races.  and i can't eat things while i run. i got dehydrated at st george, but felt like i had enough water this time during the race. i would love suggestions on runner's stomach solutions so i can feel confident in running another marathon without dying after its over!

good news is, recovery should be pretty easy.  it prob shouldn't take longer than the next week to heal things internally!

So great day, crappy day

congrats on the 1st place finish. I have had many bad experiences post race to were I am puking my guts out or just extremely sick after. I have found that it is a salt imbalance for me and if I can keep that in check I don't get sick or dehydrated. I use prolytes and they work great. I also use a gel that has protein in it called accell gel it doesn't upset my stomach like some other do. Sorry about all the drama afterwards.

I was wondering if you are the same Ty that use to run with the sojourners many years ago. If so we used to run together.

Got up and taught core fusion today - ooh legs were sore!  I hadn't foam rolled or stretched since the marathon - it really makes a difference.

I ran 4 really easy miles at a 9 min mile on the tread, and quads were definitely feeling it.  i wanted to do 5, but 4 felt like enough today.  I'm really trying to take it easy this week and listen to my body.

I trained my contestants, and taught flex tonight.  My right knee was bugging a little, but i think it was just my it band acting up.  Will definitely roll on the softball tonight!

Ran the water tower loop today in the beautiful 75 degrees.  I started out without a plan cause i didn't know how my stomach would do.  And i ran pretty easy - 8:30 average.  Well stomach did start to bug after the first couple of miles, and it was off and on from there.  It was definitely bearable.  Its so hard to know when you can push and when you cant!  So by the end, i was doing ok, but not super happy about it.  i decided i was going to see the doc the next day.  I think the E.R. didn't get everything right, cause this pain feels an awful lot like my good old ulcer....except worse.  It's in the same spot - middle/upper stomach into the esophagus.  It makes me nauseous, and sometimes hard to breathe.  oh dear.

Taught zumba at night, and got through half of my class before my stomach was burning.  It would go off and on, but all the ab crunching and ab movement was doing a number on it.  Stopped by walgreens on the way home and picked up some peptid ac.  If it's ulcer this should help.

Oh man, i'm tired.  i got up super early to make it to the radio station at 7 am.  The Big Loser contest ended today, and I wanted to be there for my trainee, Leslie, cause she was in the final 3.  She ended up getting 2nd!  and won 6 free months to wash rec and weight watchers.  She lost 46 lbs in 8 weeks.  I'm a proud mama.

I then subbed renee's spin class today as a last min thing - it was interesting.  I haven't subbed a spin class in years, so i just got a routine off turnstep and read through and followed it as i taught the class.  haha.  i wonder if they noticed.  i think i pulled it off ok.

I wanted to run afterwards, but wasn't feeling up to it in my belly.  I decided to go to the doc instead.

well he confirmed my suspicions that it was my ulcer, and says it must be seriously inflamed right now with how much it's hurting.   thankfully no bacteria in it though.   Sooo he doubled me up on medication to get started on, and hopefully it helps!  The ulcer has been off and on since high school is making me so tired and nauseous all the time.  I suspect that this was the culprit last week as my "flu" as u can have all the same symptoms.   I will need to get a scope done in 3 months to check things out in there.  I need to quite stressing!!!!  easier said than done with my kids:)

Also my iron was in the toilet, so time to start taking my pills again.  and no more ibuprofen.

I decided to try for 10 today, but my legs were toast by 9.  I guess my body is still in recovery mode.    i immediately scheduled an appt with april cause my quads are just holding onto the pain.  It was really hilly today, and abs didn't love the downhill.  hopefully she can figure out what is causing this. averaged 8:10 today.  I'll prob just ease into next week too.  nothing too serious.

On the positive side, the barrage of medicine on my ulcer seems to have calmed it down.  i felt a little at the end in my esophogas, but that's it:)  i'll have to stay on the meds, but i can't believe that's all it took.

I really wanted to run early this morning, but it just didn't happen.  I taught core, and really tried to bust my butt as well.  My obliques are still not right, but it felt good to work them.

Put kids down for a nap, got a sitter, and ran an afternoon run to the water tower trail backwards - wow so much uphill!  i didn't realize it.  I was pretty dead by the end.  abs and ulcer bugged a little - not bad.

taught flex, but they wanted to do cardio today - dang it.  i did some turbokick for them and my body just did not want to move.  I knew i had an appointment with april afterwards, so i could push it a little bit:)

full body massage tonight - had a tight back, but legs seemed to be ok -my quads really weren't too bad. what was torture was my ab massage.  ugh...she said all my problems lately (abs, ulcer) are stress related, and i had some serious knots at the top of my rectus abdominis. its been making it feel hard to breathe. k anyways, i'm hoping that makes it all better - and I will work on de-stressing!

One of the results of slacking off the day before is a lot of energy for the run today.  I wasn't actually planning on doing speedwork, but after a mile i decided to do the workout that i was going to miss out on with the club later that day.  So here's my workout...which btw is so not as much fun on the tread....alone...

every 1/2 mile i would change the incline through this pattern - up to 1.0, down to -1.0, and then .0...it keeps me occupied

miles 1-3- 7.0 - 8.0 - (treadmill speed)

mile 4 - 8.2, mile 5 - 8.7 mile 6 - 9.5, mile 7 - 9.8, mile 8-9.5 = 10.2.

cool down .5

Last mile felt pretty hard, but that's the first hard workout i'd had since the marathon.  My knee has been bugging here and there, and hurt for about the first mile, then eased off - hmmm.

on the positive side, abs never really hurt.  ulcer just a little - I'm a mess ha ha.

Got to do my Zumba Party tonight!!!!  So much fun - packed room with 65 people and 5 instructors - I love my job:)  I was surprised i didn't feel tired for the whole 1.5 hours at all.

Man i'm being lazy.  couldn't get myself out of bed early this morning, so i ended up on the stupid tread...again.  5.5 miles running up and down mile long hills.  average 8 min mile.  where is the motivation??

Seriously woke up to hail and dumping snow...my poor garden.  luckily i pulled my grow boxes in and the tomatoes and peppers seem fine.

I am in such a slump right now...i am having the hardest time getting motivated.  i think i just need a schedule, but don't know what to follow. (recommendations??)  I have an app from runner's world on my phone, but i'm questioning that all my easy runs are average 7:41.  ha ha i guess i just like to take it way more easy on my easy days.  I want to run the hurricane half in 3 weeks, and then possibly the UV marathon... so 10 weeks - if i can get my quads ready for the downhill.    I'd like to do 1:25 or better in hurricane (hilly course), and then 2:55 or better in UV.  So i should be excited to train, but i haven't found my drive yet.  I wish i had more people to run with out here.

Well it's 9:45pm and i'm going to feel way too guilty if i don't get some sort of a run in tonight.  It's freezing outside, so I'm doing the tread for the 3rd day in a row - SHOOT ME NOW.  i needed a long one, so maybe i'll turn a movie on and run 12 - 14.  oh my gosh.  maybe that will movitvate me to wake up early next week.

Next week, i'm going to commit myself to less sugar and early bed time.  1 a.m. hasn't been cutting it.

I taught my core class today and did everything - i killed my abs and had no unusual pain there.  I can't figure out why only certain things hurt them.

I went to a free PT session today, and wasn't exactly worth my time.  the part on my abs wasn't hurting where he inspected - he barely touched on it and said that it wasn't my abs that were the problem, that it was my ribs.  um i'm positive my abs are hurting.  he told me to not run any downhill since that's what aggrivates it (how does one avoid all downhill?)

So in my usual fashion, i wanted to prove to him that it was my abs, and i went and ran some serious hills.  I ran in hurricane down 600 n, and then back up.  I sped up on the 3 serious downhills, and then uphills on the way back.  That was a tough workout today!  average 7:30.

Taught core fushion - only did some

abs were ok until about mile 7. then i had to stop and massage.

10 mile club run tonight.  and my first "faster" run since the marathon - oh yes i felt it.  my breathing was a little too strong at the beginning.  ran with steve and trevor who always make it look easy:)  Aside from from bathroom stop, i kept up with them.  averaged 6:40 for the whole run...last 3 miles were 6:15, 6:15, 6:25.  Hopefully that run will kick my body into gear.

Steve suggested following hal higdon's marathon plan....i think i will.  It looks like a solid training program.

alright, i've got my running schedule planned and my sights set on Utah Valley Marathon.  If i even want a chance of doing well, i'm going to have to get my quads conditioned cause i seem to be affected more than most on downhill.  The club run was going to be 20 miles down the marathon course with 10 tempo miles, and i'm posititve my quads are not ready for that.  Instead i ran up Kolob 8 miiles (steep, continuous, uphill) and then back down for 16 total.  Ouch.  It was an easy pace, but that was some intense uphill.  I plan on doing this a few more times before the race.  thankfully my quads lasted through down the hill - i think my Saucony Kinvaras really helped them last longer.  The only sore spot was my ribs in the last mile.  I ran tempo on last 4 miles - average 6:40 (my body was not wanting to go faster).  I'm pretty happy with this run. average 7:40.

I am so done with the ab thing i've got going on.  I can't figure out how to manage it.  My run was not good at all today. i shouldn't have tried to run through the pain, but i did.  My abs/ribs bugged the whole time, but were feeling ok by the end.  I think they just get inflamed by the end.  I ran the cholla creek trail, and had to stop and wrap my abs - which didn't really help.  I don't want to have to rest them. this is a big week for me!

On the bright side, i got into UV marathon today - yeah!  I wish my abs would stop bugging so i could be more excited.

I got up this morning and my abs were aching a little.  i had planned on doing the club run later, but didn't know if my abs would last.  I got up and ran 3 miles on the treadmill.  the 1st mile was not so great, but next 2 were ok.  so i decided that i was going to try the run.

Went to p.t. today, and had ultrasound, stimulation done on it ribs/abs.  He told me that i could still do abs and other cardio - this is not something you tell a runner.  I have to find a way to run.  So he showed me how to wrap my ribs so they wouldn't bug (didn't help the abs but at least ribs were stabilzed.

I drove over the club run and showed up 7 min late.  no one was there so i assumed i had missed them. thankfully clyde showed up, and i got to jump in with him.  Even though he just ran a marathon, he pushed me to a solid pace.  And may i mention that the freaking wind was blowing!  again!

I was wearing the wrap, but right away my ribs and abs were not loving me (and it was way hard to breathe).  By mile 6, i was ready to give it up for the day and let clyde go.  i took the wrap off, and things started to feel a little better.  so i ended up running up the trail til i found clyde coming back.  i ended up getting 9 miles or so in (we didn't have garmins).  felt like a 6:45 average or so.  My abs were ok again, but started up about the last mile.  Clyde had a good talk about our similar injury, so i'm hoping his advice will work for me.

I taught zumba tonight, and it was awful.  i eeked my way through it and my abs were hurting till the ibuprofen kicked in.  they are sore tonight, and i will not run tomorrow - maybe will try to hit up a spin class.  I'm so frustrated right now!  I've got to get this 20 miler in this weekend and don't know if my abs will hold out.  I wasn't planning on tapering for race next week, but maybe i will so it will help my abs get better....again.

I had a 20 miler on the schedule, but i got 1 whole mile in before my abs were freaking out.  I felt like being depressed about it and just giving up on the day, but i ran back home, got on my road bike, and went for a nice ride.  It felt so good to be back on my old girl after a 6 mo break.  i was just going to ride the leeds loop - 27 miles, but got to hurricane and was feeling so good that i added on 10 more.  So i ended up riding over 2 hours.  my legs were pretty dead but i was suprised how strong i felt.  i averaged 17 mph even with a headwind.

Went to see april for a massage that night.  i was so sure that i was unfixable, but she got my abs to release again - can i just say that that woman is amazing!  I still don't know what is causing my abs to do this, but at least i might be able to run on monday!

I met with a new p.t. and was disappointed  to hear that the one who would be helping me was a new therapist...ahh...i need someone with experience!  the last thing that she said to me was, sorry i don't feel like we helped you much.  Thankfully though, she did some research and called me later.  i may know what is causing my problem.  It has to do with the diaphragm and the liver -if i don't take breaths into my abs and it stays shallow in my chest, it can cause the ligaments in the diaphram to strain.  I've been under lots of stress lately and that could cause it as well.  soooo, concentrating on deep breaths into my belly when i run may be the fix.

while at the p.t. she also "scraped" my abs, which may have helped the next day during my race.

I decided to go ahead and run the hurricane half the next day.  i'll take some ibuprofen and get through it.

Yeah, doctors are even less helpful (the ones I've been to anyway) so its hard to know who to go to for help! It's such a weird problem. I researched it online last night and people were describing my problem exactly. So I really think I'm dealing with the diaphragm thing.

Well it aint called Hurricane Utah for nothing. The wind did the city proud today.  Unfortunately I had to run in it today - Fortunately i had a decent race.  I got to the starting line 15 min before the race started, and really didn't feel that bad about not getting much of a warm up in.  The wind was bone chilling!  I felt perfectly dressed for the race, but had forgotten my gloves - I have never wanted them more during a race!  (wore arm warmers, race singlet, shorts, headband, and compression socks).  That was one of the first races were i had less on than my hubby:)

It was great to see so many familiar faces at the start -lots of friends and  a bunch of my ladies from class were tackling their first 1/2 marathon today and it was so cool to see their commitment!  I felt pretty confident in my race that day - I was hoping for a 1:24 or 1:25 - With a strong, cold headwind that day, a  hilly 1st 5 miles, and nemisis to be climbed, that sort of time would have been a tall order.  As I toed the line, i looked around and didn't recognize anyone that was going to challenge me for 1st (but you defintely never know).  I tried to not hold myself back like i tend to do.

I saw that i was right as i stayed out in front of even the guys for the first 8 miles. Here are my splits.

1 - 6:24 - flat

2 - 6:33 - flat -slightly up - i was already thirsty and the first aid station didn't have any cups!

3.- 6:33 - rolling up - I kept eyeing the lake and was glad that i wasn't the one doing the ironman next week - that lake is going to be freezing!!!

4 - 6:35 - up then down, starting to turn into the wind - my hands were painfully freezing

6 - 6:55 - started up nemisis - nasty, nasty hill - now wind is straight on, ugh!

7 -7:51 - end of nemisis - had to get legs moving down the other side - we now are running into a headwind for the rest of the race;(

8 - 6:40 - down then up - 1st guy catches me here, next guy is a ways back next girl  is not even sight

9 - 6:38 -

10 -6:45

11 -6:45

12 - 6:33 - i knew i had secured 1st woman at this point, but i wanted to catch the 1st guy - just to say i did.  He continued to speed up and I finished about a minute back.

13 - 6:26

.2 - 6:24

My body wanted to go harder on the last 5 miles, but the wind was puting up a good fight. I had taken some ibuprofen, so i'm not sure how my abs handled it.  I tried to concentrate on the deep breathing, and it may have helped.  My diaphragm area still felt tight during the race, but i was definitely manageable.  My abs twinged at the end, but that's it!   hopefully this means that they are on their way back:)

Ran 1 cool down mile and got to pace my hubby in - so proud of him:) and cheered my friends in.   I changed into some fresh clothes right when i finished, but i still froze my tush off until after the awards ceremony.

I'm happy about how i did today.  i would've liked a faster time, but felt like i did what i could today.  I wish the Hurricane half would step up and improve their race as their were many things i'd change.  it does have potential.  the old course was much faster and drew more competition - classic sports did a much better job sponsoring it!  They we\re not the most organized or enthusiastic crew today either - but maybe they were hating being in that wind as much as we did.  Anyways , there's my 2 cents.  I was happy to get a $50 gift certificate to both Classic Sports and Hill Sports!

I managed to get myself up super early and get my 10 miler in.  After all the massaging and rolling, my abs handled it fine.  I averaged 6:43 for the run, with my last 4 averaging 6:25.

Met with april to get the knots out of my obliques, but she mostly concentrated on my back.  it was sooooo tight and sore.  she thinks that is what is causing the problems in my obliques.  it was super sore afterwards.  she recommended lots of stretching in that direction.  hopefully we've found the problem!

The schedule had a tempo run, followed by a 20 miler the next day..  I knew this would push me a little.  i was hoping to get a good downhill run in that day, but jim had to work and couldn't drop me off.  sooooo i had to create my own downhill.

I've been wanting to do this workout for a while - I ran to the top of the twist in la verkin (on the way to virgin) and then down into cholla creek at a good pace.  so 3 miles up and down  a very steep hill.  i ran a flat mile in between, but i did this 3 times.  oh man, the uphill i handled fine, but my legs were so tired by the end of the last downhill.   at one point i saw a bottled water in the middle of the sidewalk that said ty - either someone saw me and was being super sweet, or someone named ty was cursing me - i drank it.  Totally made my day:)

I took good care of my body afterwards and it felt good.  lots of stretching and refueling - even an ice bath.  I really tend to neglect that and i know i suffer for it.

Good news - i think we've figured out my ab problem, so i'm going to vigilantly stretch my back out.  anytime it got tight, i'd stretch it out and my abs didn't bug much at all.

I went over to the ironman to cheer Ashley, Renee, Carol, Jeff, Amber, Jamie, and Stacie on and am so proud ofeveryone!   I'm so inspired...and scared to try it.  i can't imagine pushing my body to that point!

i went hom, made some popcorn and fell asleep watching a movie that night:)  It was nice to have a little break.

I wanted to get some more downhill in today, so parked at the bottom of cholla creek, and biked 5 miles up the the highway.  i ran down, back up, then back down.  the clouds were loving me that day, and stayed above me for my whole run.  I even got a nice sprinkle in the middle.  Strangely, the outside quads hurt for the first 5 miles but not the rest of the time.  I do feel like they are getting stronger and are not as sore today!  I'm hoping to get a long downhill run in next week.  abs bugged last mile today but i think my back tightened up.

I went back to my bike, and decided that i wasn't done for the day.  I got 20 more miles in on the bike, but i really should've cut that short.  i hadn't had any gels, but had some gatorade and a granola bar.  I rode into leeds, and couldn't believe how easy it felt.  it was slightly downhill, but it felt so effortless. i found out why. soon enough.  i had a tailwind on the way out, and a nice uphill headwind on the way back..  oh yes.  i averaged 10 mph on the way back, it was really sad.  i was completely out of energy.  its been a while since i felt like that.  i'm a little worried cause this was supposed to be my recovery week.  i guess i do start tapering after next week.  i need some good solid tempo miles and a good downhill run to boost my confidence a little for utah valley!

Today was my marathon pace run, and my goal was to hit 6:20s to 6:30s depending on how i felt.  the course was had long stretches of gradual uphill, and then gradual downhill.  My only prob today was my abs - not good:(  i had to stop twice to massage them - I knew i was going to see april today so i pushed through.  here are my splits.  my legs felt pretty good throughout!

1 - warm up - 7:47

2 - 6:34

3- 6:36

4 - 6:34

5 -6:41

6 -6:48

7 -6:30

8 - 6:37

9 - 6:39

10 - 6:39

11 -6:40

12 -9:11

I was hoping for it to be a little faster - to get a few of those in the 6:20s, but i'm good with it:)  My abs were holding me back a little.  my first 12 with the warm up mile was 1:20 - would've been a 1:26 to 1:27 1/2 marathon.  If i can do 2 of those, i'll be right where i want to be.  I did feel like i could keep going. Plus UV marathon has way more down hill than i did today.  Should make for some faster miles.

I went to april afterwards and she found a pretty tight spot in my upper back, under the shoulder blade.  It seems that was my problem spot!

20 miles down the marathon course with the race team.  I'm so happy that i made it!  everytime i did this run last year my quads would fail by the end.  they held out and felt great!  My abs hurt for 6 miles, and then loosened up.  that's a huge improvement.

My garmin battery died, so i had to keep bugging everyone around me.  Based on bill's time, my average would've been low 7's, maybe 7:05 or so.  That felt easy, so hopefully 45 sec faster per mile in the marathon will get me a really great time!

almost 60 miles this week.  that's the most in 10 years!

Club run tonight = ouch.  i felt tired and just couldn't push my miles faster.  The whole thing was a decent pace.  first mile was an 8:15, miles 2-5were 6:50 average, and then, 6-9 were 6:23 average.  Again, i'm having issues getting my feet to turn over faster - I was running faster times than this earlier in the season, but we also would run the beginning miles slower.  so maybe that is it.  I just want to see a few 6:05s or 6:15s even.  on my speed run tomorrow i'm going to make sure i hit those.

I wanted to meet up the guys for a club run, but was up til 2 making my 5 year old's b-day spiderman cake.  He is so worth it. i love the little guy:)

So I had to run less miles than i wanted, and got 14 in.  I started at the highway, then ran down 5 miles, up 5. and then back down 4.  During the last 4 miles, I stopped looking at my watch and tried to get some marathon pace miles in.  i wanted to see how fast i'd run without my watch.  apparantly not as fast as i wanted - last 4 were 6:30 (with uphill), 6:38 (more uphillL), 6:24, 6:43 (more flat and uphill).  i wasn't pushing super fast, i just did a pace that felt do-able (but you always run faster in a race right?).  I need to get a good speed run in for my confidence!

On a side note, it is sooo hard to taper.  I think it's my least favorite part.

I needed a confidence booster this day since my marathon miles on sat were not what i wanted.  I guess i'll see next week if this run was a bad idea.  It helped my mental strength for sure!

I ran to the top of the highway, and then did 5 tempo miles at 10k pace down to cholla creek.  I slowly jogged home to make it 10 miles.  I was pretty happy with my mile pace, even with some uphills mixed in. - averaged a 6:06 The pace was definitely pushing me, but it was do-able.

Miles were 1 - 5:57, 2- 5:54, 3- 6:10, 4 - 6:22, 5 -5:58

My legs weren't too tired by the end, and am hoping this will mean great things for my marathon next week!

Today was supposed to be 4 marathon pace miles, but it really didn't go as planned.   My legs felt heavy after my mile warm -up, and didn't improve as i tried to speed up the pace.  I think i'm tired from tues run...dang it. i hope i didn't overdo it.  First mile was 6:40, 2nd 6:58 (and it felt way toooo hard).  So i decided to cut it short and just do some slow miles in.

Also found out that my Grandpa passed away today - I'm glad that he is out of pain.  Time to head to Idaho.  The forced rest will do me some good too.

I got to sit a lot this weekend - My family is so "country" - they spent the majority of the time sitting on the porch talking and laughing the day away.  I loved it! and it was really good for me.

Went to gpa's funeral which was really good. This weekend ended up being a big family reunion, and it seemed like such a happy time.  I think that's the way it should be:)  to celebrate his life.  Also had to sing 2 solos during the service, which is one of the hardest things in the world to do when i cry so easily.

Success today!  My marathon pace miles felt doable and strong.  6:39 and 6:37 at a high elevation on a relatively flat road.  the plan i was following had me add an 800m, and then a few strides at the end.  I don't think i needed the last part, but did it anyways.

On a side note, I hope grandma's homemade country cooking doesn't kill me this weekend:) Especially all the yummy idaho potatoes she made.  and all the brownies, cookies,  pies.....etc. carbo loading right?  I don't dare step on the scale for a few days.

I am walking away from today so thankful for the ability to run and to be surrounded by so many amazing people that can push their bodies to unbelievable limits! I am thankful for what I accomplished today though it's not what i wanted. I only finished today with the Lord's help, that's for sure.

Great parts of my day include

1. I was able to place overall even on an off day.

2. I was able to finish without ending up in the med tent (lol)

 3. I think I've finally figured out how to fuel my body (no runner's stomach today)

I woke up at 3:30, took a quick shower, and ate 1/2 a banana and 1/2 a bagel. I don't normally eat before i run, but I also always seem to have problems taking gu on an empty stomach - It seemed to work for me today. I got to ride up to the top with Ash and Renee (2 of my favorite ladies in the world)and it really seemed to ease any nervousness that i had.

Got to warm up with steve and jeff at the beginning, and noticed that i could feel the elevation a little. I really wanted to make sure that i didn't go out too hard and get wiped out for the rest of the race. I was aiming for a 2:56, but would settle for sub 3 and i knew i could do it

I took 4 anti - fatiques and 2 s-caps to start. here's my race

1- 6:59 - uphill and was already a little breathy - ugh

2 - 6:35 - forgot to take gel at beginning - took one here

3 - 6:42

 4 - 6:38

5 - 6:42

Miles 2 - 6 were around where i wanted to be. I actually did feel relaxed and great at the pace. i was in 4th at this point, but it was pretty spread out.I think i've learned that i'm more motivated by chasing my competitiion - Next time I will try to stay with their pace. I did have 1 guy who ran by me for a while that was telling me if i wanted to run sub 3 hour i needed to slow down - It was messing with my head. So I feel like if i had gone a tad bit faster i would have been fine (and had some seconds to spare at the end - oh well - i'm still learning).

 6 -6:42 - gel

7 - 6:41 - 2 s-caps and 1 anti-fatigue

8 -7:06

9 -7:20

10 - 6:45

Miles 6-10 - still feeling fine - the hills were a little more taxing than i expected (elevation?)

11 -6:43 - This is where I started to have problems. My ab/rib/back/nerve problem came back out of no where - The nerve in my back that comes around makes my abs tightens and cramps up under my rib cage and hard to breathe - usually it comes on slow, but it hit me hard here. It was pretty discouraging as it didn't let up for 9 miles. I was saying plenty of prayers that i would just be able to finish now. I saw Michelle l. running up the canyon and it was great to see a friendly face for 1 min or so.

12 -7:01 - - 1 potty break - girl #4 passed me while i was in.- took a gel

13 - 6:56 - half marathon was 1:29 on my watch - but running time as i passed said 1:30 - def not where i wanted to be at this point. It messed with my head as i probably could've finished sub 3 hour still if my ab thing wasn't killing me.

14 - 7:19

 15- 6:37

 16- 7:06

 17- 7:08

18 -6:52

 19 -6:55

20 -7:06 Major loss of motivation at this point. My abs finally started letting up as we got off of the steeper hills around 18- but i felt like even sub 3 was gone (i just couldn't add in my head at this point). I was at 2:17:52 - if i could've kept it 6:40s i would have done it. 21 -6:52 22 -7:07

23 -7:07

24 -7:26

 25- 7:12

26 -7:16 21-26 I honestly was feeling ok at this point but had it in my head that a good time was gone. Legs were tired but ok. I was just holding onto 5th place. I didn't realize that my competition was only 1 min ahead of me, and if i would've kicked my pace up, i might have caught her. I think "Never Give Up" will be my motto for next race. I'm proud of myself for sticking throught the pain, hopefully things will work out better next time. grateful for the $200 today:) My girl team - Renee, Ash, and Liz - got 1st for the women's div - Yay!

Ty- Congratulations on your race today! You always have such a positive attitude even when things didn't go as planned, but seriously I hope you are proud of how you did and bringing money home is always a bonus!!!

You have so much talent, it amazes me! The thing I love the most is that you don't let your mind hold you back, you aren't afraid to go out and lay it on the line!

Can't wait to start running with ya again. . . all this race talk today, I'm feeling really jealous! ha!

I think you ran a good race, we never can for see those nasty kind of thing that happen in a race and I think you held it together well for being in pain for that long. I like to race form behind and when you do that you can never give up, I have caught people right at the very end doing that.

Thanks so much everyone!I so appreciate the support. I had been mulling over this race in my head, just wondering what went wrong - I had, trained hard and felt great. After i crossed the starting line that day I knew something felt off. my fist mile was slow, and every mile seemed harder than it should have been. I chalked it up to elevation. Well I know NOW that i ran the dang thing PREGNANT. haha. That's enough to make your heart rate go up automatically. soooo, it was a relief to know that i probably do still "have it in me" and that I'll get those sub 3 s after another year hiatus. On to the next big adventure:)

I planned on still keep speedwork out of the training this week, but wanted to start on the miles again.  I had decided that i was going to up my miles for a couple of months so that I could do well at st george (high miles have worked for me in the past).  At this point im having a hard time holding myself back - but i know i needed to recover from the marathon.I do have a half marathon in 3 weeks and wanted to get the legs moving again.

taught core fushion in the a.m.

I knew i'd have to run on the treadmill again today and was dreading it.  I wanted to do 8 or 9, but only got 7 in due to time.  I tried to speed up my legs a little and run low 7s for a while.  I had the most insane experience today.  I was in the middle of my run and I had an insane desire to go grab a nice fat cheeseburger right then and there.  at one point I  had to jump off to help my little guy use the potty.  I ended up grabbing a pack of fruit snacks, a pack of gu chomps,  a piece of bread, and a granola bar (400 calories or so).  and then i finished my run!  I couldn't believe how hungry i was.

I jumped in on our zumba party that night.  So fun!  One thing i noticed though was that my belly was sticking out more than normal.  I had been soooo strict with my food, and had even taken my shakeology which always flattens out my belly.  So I was kind of frustrated.  My weight was about the same - 117-118, so i couldn't figure it out.

Well I went to sleep that night and woke up at 3 am.  I could not go back to sleep at allcause of something on my mind!  So after an hour and a half, i got in the car and drove to wal mart.  Strangely i was the only customer in there:) well i picked up some milk, band aids, and a pregnancy test.  I was late that month, and had been extra tired.  Post marathon symptoms could have been the cause of it too, but i was positive i was right.  And i was!  While driving home, i experienced a whole gammit of emotions - I was extremely happy of course - This had just come earlier than we had planned.  but also disappointed that my racing season was over after all that training.  I was relieved to know that my last marathon felt like it did because of the pregnancy (your average heart rate goes up right away - when every workout starts feeling really hard like that, i usually know i've got a bun in the oven)

This pregnancy is already different cause i usually get extremely sick right from the get go.  I have had few symptoms aside from being tired...and needing to pee more:)  So I'm hoping for an easy one this time - it sure makes it go by faster.

I never did get back to sleep last night and I was tired!  I was also starting to feel a bit sick - I had jinxed myself after saying that last night.  Thankfully I'm figuring out that if i stuff my face all day, i feel fine (oh dear).  I'm starting out a tad bit underweight, so my body is trying to fatten me up.

I didn't get outside to run til 10, and it was a scorcher already!  I was very paranoid about running pregnant in the heat, so i doused myself with ice water every 5 min or so and only ran 5.   It definitely was a slow, recovery run today.

i subbed kari's zumba at night, and could tell that my body was extra tired.  zumba is usually pretty easy for me, but i was definitely getting a workout.

i list marathon pace miles right now, but my miles were only 7 min miles.  I'm making sure to watch my breathing and body heat to make sure i'm not over-exerting. I'm already signed up for the star valley half in 2 weeks, so i'm hoping to maintain some sort of decent pregnancy pace when i run it.  I'll do it with absolutely no pressure to win though!  I'll run for fun (what is that again:))   Strangely my body felt great today, and i didn't feel any different.  I did have to eat right before i ran, and then eat a granola bar and chomps in the middle.

Can i just say that being able to eat more is seriously the best part!  My hubby raised his eyebrows at the amount of pasta on my dish last night:)  Only runners/ exercisers can do it though without gaining 50 lbs!  I still keep it really healthy though.

Sasha needs to add a pregnancy tracker on here:)  I'm almost 5 weeks along.  Due feb 24.

That was the hardest 13 i've done in a while. I ran to la verkin and back through cholla, so it wasn't easy. I'm surprised how bad it was today though. I had to bring food with me to eat during the run, and i still ran out of energy. The biggest thing was my knees - they were so bad by the end of the run! I've never tried to maintain these distances pregnant, so i guess i'm seeing that my body can't handle it very well. I don't know if i'll do that half marathon now either....

It's so weird to go from exercising 2 to 3 hours a day, to less than 1.  i have to get it in my head that 1 workout is ok.  It's more than enough right now.

I ran 8 on the treadmill averaging 8:10, and it felt ok.  a lot better than sat for sure.  I'm going to do 10 on fri to see if i can handle it.  if so i'll go ahead and run the half next weekend.  I'll have to carry gatorade with me since im learning that i  can't let my blood sugar drop while running pregnant.  My body doesn't want to use my fat reserves, so it just ends up slowing me down and making me feel like crap.  I just drank gatorade instead of water today and it seemed to help.

Hey girl! Nope, i think club runs are out as a 7 min mile is my speed run right now lol. it's also at 8 pm and that's when my zumba class is. I'm sad - it's hard to leave all that behind all of a sudden. I'll be a much happier lady once i get through this first trimester! ugh:) do you get sick with yours? I don't know how woman run long distances pregnant - i just had to opt out of my last saturday's race. Anyways, are you ready for saturday? I'm excited for ya!

I managed to get myself up early to run, and ran to the freeway and back for 6.  I picked up the pace on the way down.  Then i finished 4 more on the treadmill. The only thing bugging were my knees!  not too bad today, but I was questioning if i was going to be able to do a whole half marathon next week.  Oh scratch that, I was also fighting the nausea near the end, but gatorade and granola bars seemed to help.

I had to take it slow, but I got packed up and ready to go to star valley (so excited!!!!) for a week long vacation at mom's house for the fam reunion!!!!

Side note on the pregnancy, As long as i eat all the time, i feel fine. haha. That's extremely hard to do when food in general sounds gross.  I found that bagels and cream cheese, and fruit smoothies worked today.  My belly is starting to show too!!  I just look fat now.

I ran 5 miles with my honey today in the mountains with a light drizzle today and it was amazing!  He was a little winded, but i was feeling great for some reason (probably all the carb loading i did this weekend).  We even averaged 8 min miles which is great for him.

I've been on the edge of nausea all the time, but it left me alone for this run.  Food is starting to lose its appeal dang it.

We had a fun filled weekend with the mckim clan - lots of food, horseshoes, card playing, softball, and entertainment and it flew by:)

My day went like this today - moan and groan, choke some food down, sleep (repeated several times).  Oh man, rough day.  We had stayed up late several nights in a row, so i don't know if that got to me or what.  I was definitely in low spirits.  The food wasn't helping the nausea today, so don't know what was going on.  I slept for 5 hours in the afternoon and that seemed to help.  I am so thankful for my sis, mom, and husband, cause the care of my children was up to them today.  I felt like the 3rd child as i had to be cooked for too.  It feels easier to run 10 miles then to cook these days.  I'm fine to eat it as long as i don't see it cooked.

My husband, sister, and i all ran 6 miles down the Star valley half marathon course for sat.  I ended up averaging 7:40 pretty easily - that tells me this course is going to be fast!  It was a only a slight decline, but really helps you more than you know.  The beginning drops out of the mountains for 2 miles, and the rest is slightly decline or flat - only a couple inclines thrown in.

I ate a pancake before i left, but should've carried gatorade or something cause i was a little light headed by the end.  I knew i'd have to eat during the race on saturday.

We went swimming later at the Ranch, and had a blast with my boys.  They are such adorable and entertaining little souls. We were taking turns tossing them across the pool, and we got evan almost all the way across a few times.  he loved it.

I hate that all my entries talk about nausea or being sick, but if i ever get pregnant again, i'd like to have something to reference.  I had to buy something there to eat, and it ended up being chicken fingers and fries.  I hate that the only things i feel ok downing are so bad for me!

Turbokick and yoga today.  The mountain air was getting to me cause it felt hard!  Exercising everyday is speeding my metabolism up and making me have to eat more!  That's not a great thing right now.  I felt pretty rotten the rest of the day.  I had such a hard time eating anything at all.

No exercise today, but we did head over to lava hot springs pool (oh man, I definitely recommend this place).  I got to take evan on a few of the water slides, and my cute little 5 year old was so brave.  I did however head down one first, and in the middle it went pitch black for 10 seconds.  Oh crap.  He handled it fine, but said "that one was soo fun!  lets go on the other one though."  always puts on a brave face haha.  All the slides said not to go on them when pregnant, but i figured i was fine.  I had my doubts though when jim dragged me to the scariest, straight down one and i about peed my pants!  He did not convince me to go off of the super high dive after that.  figured if you have to sign a waiver to go on it, it prob wasnt for me at this point.  My 2 year old wanted to give them a try though, daring little squirt.

I loaded up on spaghetti and pecan praline ice cream that night (yum!), got my race gear ready, but shortly after started feeling really sick.  The 2 hour car ride had been brutal that day, but this was intensified.  I was thinking that my ulcer had kicked in again, as i hadn't been taking medicine for it since getting pregnant.  I wasn't sure what i could take that night, so stuck with the tums and went to bed with my kids. I'd had a nagging feeling all week that this race was going to be too much for me - there were too many things i was having to deal with.  I was going to have to kt tape my knees, and my back and ribs as they were still bugging.  I wasnt sure how my body would handle that distance at this point.  So i said a prayer that night that if i wasn't supposed to run tomorrow, to let me know.  Well i definitely got my answer.

Star Valley Half Race Report

I woke up at  4 am feeling sicker than ever.  I was pretty sure it was my ulcer along with pregnancy sickness, but i also had aquired a migraine as well from a pulled neck muscle.  Well there was my answer!  I fought myself for the next 2 hours, trying to convince myself that i d feel better once i started, but then finally remembered what i'd asked for.  I'm sure heavenly father knew this was the only thing that would stop me from running it.   So Im grateful for His guidance - I do see now how hard it would've been on me (and the baby) that day.  That was my worst sickness day yet!  The faster metabolism from the race would've have made life that much more miserable.  And it was pretty warm (they started the race at 8 am) - which wouldn't have been good for my little one.

So I managed to get myself over to watch my husband and sister (first half marathon) race!  I'm so proud of them. it was really hard not to be able to run in my old stomping ground, and also to see the girl's winning time be 1:37 - she won a beautiful trophy, $100, and other goodies.  Pretty impressive for this small town race!  I  will definitely be giving it a go next year!  Such a beautiful course too.

I finally researched a little, and took a prevacid and tylenol as it looks like it was safe to take.  My stomach and headache eased a bit

Zumba was surprisingly ok today!  I had more energy than expected.

It rained while we were gone, and found a forest of weeds in my yard.  I think i'll just ignore them one more day.

Moderate sickness today.  I'm tired from the drive yesterday ( which was super, super, rough) and i've noticed that the nausea gets worse with exhaustion.  I'm going to make it a priority to take a daily nap.

I remembered that hot pockets got me through the first trimester with isaac, so i loaded up on them.  cereal seems ok too (as long as it's bland - cheerios, puffed rice, or fruit loops:))we'll see if they work.  also got some preggie pops, ulcer medicane, and zofran to help with nausea. hopefully it helps!  The things women go through to have children!

I so enjoyed the run outside yesterday that i decided to have evan bike and i'd push the stroller while i ran.  It started out great, but halfway through the run, I got way nauseous.  Oh not fun.  I was a mile from home and was wondering how i was going to make it back.  So I stumbled my way home, and ended up in bed for the rest of the day. I ate a taco time burrito cause i was seriously craving it, and seriously paid for it later. I need to stay away from fast food!  It's so hard cause i hate cooking right now.

I weighed 122 (gained 4 lbs), and am 10 weeks and 3 days.

I taught core fushion today - physically feeling good.

We cooked steaks tonight and it totally hit the spot!  i could've eaten all of jim's too.  also I know I'm officially pregnant because I bought pickles the other day.  I don't eat pickles. and they are sooo good.

13 weeks today!  Almost into the second trimester - 122-123 lbs

Migraine and nausea continued today...yuck.  I'm having serious digestive issues.

I cleaned at the temple and then swam at the rec center.  I was so happy with this workout!  Everything just clicked, and I could feel my body reaching further and stronger.  I swam a mile in 33 min, which is good for me non pregnant.  I wasn't breathing very hard and could've gone harder for sure.  I was famished afterward. and ate  a yummy sandwich at port-o-subs.  Food is starting to taste better - except when i cook it of course.

Stomached bugged all day and felt horrible after we ate at iggys (I was not impressed).  Had great company with friends though.

Today was my day to increase mileage, so I went on my "long run" of 9 miles. I managed to get up at 6:30 and go, so the run felt beautiful.  I love early morning (that's early to me).  My legs already felt tired by 2, but I got through it at a steady pace (8:50s - good for the hilliness of it). ran into cholla creek and back.   My boys ran/biked by me for my last mile, which is always awesome:)

For some reason, but stomach still hurts.  I can't figure it out.  It feels kind of gassy for lack of a better word, but it's not.  It feels like its in my intestines too, so I don't know.  I hope it passes and isn't anything serious.  It's been 3 days though.  I'm taking nexium and zantac so it shouldn't be my ulcer.   hmmm.

I did it!  That is by the far the longest i've gone at this point being pregnant - and it felt great!  I actually had planned on 10 miles, but ran farther than i thought i would.  I was in Ogden visiting Jim's bro, and ran on the little trail that goes through the middle of town.  Unfortunately my watch died .6 of a mile into the run, and i didn't want to turn around.  So i figured that i wasn't doing anything else, so i actually counted how many minutes i was running. The little counter just kept going in the back of my head. Apparently that's not the most accurate way to judge distance:).  I thought i was doing 9 min miles ( but must have been 8:30 - 8:45).  It was on a flat  trail.  So anyhow, i turned around when i thought i should, but it was 3/4 of a mile off.  So i got myself to run a little farther than i had planned.

Went to a bees game with the kids later, and they lasted about 4 innings.  It was fun though!

pm zumba - sooo tired today!  I had a small class, so that didn't help either.  I had canned peaches all day, and that had worn me out. Oh and did i mention that i could barely move my arms from turbokick yesterday!

Beautiful run today - perfect weather!  The sky was overcast at 8 am, and it felt soooo good.  I weirdly had a ton of energy today.  I averaged 8:40 on a hilly run (that's the fastest in the last 2 pregnancy months).  Everything just felt easier even though im bigger.  I love those days.  It was probably from all the carb loading i did the day before (aka junk food binge)

I know i really really really shouldn't be freaking out about this, but I'm kinda not happy about my weight gain.  I've gained 7-10 lbs (depending on the day) and am 15 weeks, which i know isn't alot.  I just feel a lot chunkier in other areas this time.  It's so stupid.  I really have never worried about it in my other pregnancies so i don't know what's wrong with me this time.  I guess it's just cause nothing fits as far as pants go.  I'm trying to just eat healthy and my body will be fine I'm sure.

I woke up this morning kind of dreading my run.  I wanted to go 10, but was so not motivated.  I was feeling a little down cause my friends were all doing red rock relay and i wasn't.  I actually did have 3 teams ask me if i could fill in last minute.  I didn't think my bod could handle all of that.

So I glanced at my phone before going and noticed my friend had texted me at 4 am, asking if i could fill in on a leg later on.  I gave her a call and they were just coming into la verkin, and asked if i wanted to do the next one.  Yes!!! of course.   it was perfect timing and i was only 3 min away.

So i pretty much got there and started running.  I do need to mention that the first 2 miles were up the la verkin twist - ouch.  I was so awesome though.  I felt bad passing everyone while being pregnant, but they were on their 3rd legs, and i was pretty fresh.  I did get 7 kills:)  I was surprised at the pace i could still run. I averaged 8 min/ mile which included the uphill portion.  The leg was 6.2 and i just wanted to keep running!  I went from dreading my run, to being able to have a support and cheer team, and motivation to pass people.  It was so perfect.  I really needed it.

They drove me back down and i ran another 4 miles , to make 10 miles.

I am so loving running with other people- I've always loved it but never have the time to plan with people when i have a more rigid running schedule (plus it's hard to find people around my pace here).  I got to run with my friend Kim today while pushing the stroller, and the time just flew by!  We kept a 8:45 pace too.

I taught core fushion before and am noticing that i'm not feeling as good to do the whole class anymore.  Too many abs are a little too much now, so i'll be cutting down on that.

My appetite was out of control today!  I felt like i literally ate all day.

Can I just say that i am soo happy to be able to post this number.  I've never ran this far this much into my pregnancy.  So yay!

I ran with friends who were training for st. george down the course. It was such a beautiful morning.  I was a little afraid cause my hip flexor has been starting to bug, and when i started it was a little stronger than i'd liked.  Usually the hip flexor pain is the beginning of the end for me as far as pregnancy running goes.

Anways, I was only planning on 10 or so, but i felt really good and got myself to go 3 more.

Quads were pretty sore from today, and I was absolutely famished for a few days!

Oh man where is my motivation??  No run today - I kept puting it off until it was too late.  I did do some of my core class.

Today was the BIG DAY for us....ultrasound day:)  I just wanted to made sure that the baby's parts were all in place and healthy.  Ok and we were really hoping for a little girl!  I'm totally outnumbered with all the boys in the house, I needed a little more estrogen.  Every mom needs a little girl:)

So our first glimpse of our baby was the spine, and we didn't get too much more than that the rest of the time.  Oh and the feet were curled up and crossed too!  After a little bit of prodding and poking, the baby opened the legs a couple times - Just enough to show us that we had our girl!  I'm so so happy!

Everything else looked healthy, which i'm always ooober grateful for.  We never got to see her face,  but everything else looked good.

My blood test came back showing me being anemic again (not a shock).  I'm wondering if that is where my lack of energy has come from lately.  On to the iron pills.

I subbed Turbokick at Golds and a had a total blast this morning.  Big big crowd and lots of energy.  I can't wait for next week (doing it again).

I then taught my own Zumba at night.  I knew I had to eat before i went, but all i had was my kids thrown together mac n cheese.  I knew i shouldn't...but i did.  Ugh I got the WORST stomach ache during class, and it only got worse after!  I barely made it through class.

I had a zumba event that evening and was kind of glad that i hadn't ran cause it was pretty draining....and sooo fun.  We danced in the Hurricane Park on the stage at night.  We then ate all our calories afterwards at dairy queen - I didn't even feel a little bad hehe.

So much fun today! I wanted to run the marathon sooo badly, so I asked my friend, Aimee, if she wanted a pacer at the end (who wouldn't).  Sooo I got to run the best part of the marathon without the pain!

I got dropped off at mile 2.5, and ran up to meet her at mile 5.  I even got to run with another lady up named staci who was also going to pace her friend going for a sub 3 hour.  Aimee was trying to get under 3:20, and i was confident i could hold that pace at 5 mo preggo.

It was a different experience to be at the front when the leaders were coming in - there were way less spectators and everyone looked a lot more solid.  I tried yelling for everyone, but most had ear phones in.  Clyde and Steve looked really good and i was happy for what they achieved that day.  I was waiting to yell for Amber, but I never saw her (I knew something must've been wrong).  It was sooo awesome to see Marcie killing it - and in 6th place.  What an achievement for her!

I had it perfectly timed as she arrived shortly after i came out of the port a potty.  She said she was doing good so far, and she looked pretty solid.  This was her first st. george marathon, so i knew the worst was yet to come for her.  It was feeling pretty warm that day too.

She stayed pretty solid until about 2.5 miles left - her legs were just burning.  I tried all types of things to motivate her, but she still slowed down from 7:30 to 8:30 (she told me later she wanted me to yell at her - I can't do that lol). She still held it together though and finished with a 3:23 - which is a  2 min p.r. for her.  I loved enjoying the yelling crowds without wanting to kill them (does that happen to anyone else).  The pace felt pretty easy.

I hung around and cheered other friends in - it was just fun to be a part of even though I didn't actually "run" it.

I'm 19 weeks, and 130 lbs.

Whew, way hard run today!  I don't know what got into me but i decided to run up to the highway which also happened to be uphill against the wind!  That was the longest 2.5 miles of my life!  I ran back down and then added on the water tower trail.  The dirt felt so much nicer on my joints, but things are still starting to ache a bit.  Hip flexor was pretty done by the end of it.Time to schedule massage with april!

We took the kids and their bikes up to the Pa Rus trail in Zion which was  a blast.  They are such curious boys that crave the outdoors so they loved it.  We had a leftover gift certificate to a small restaurant called the Whiptail Grill in springdale- UGh!!!  I don't know that i've ever been to a restaurant that was free for me that i would never recommend to anyone.  The small meals were $16 a piece!  and they couldn't even bother to serve a salad on a place seperate from my entree.

I had to squeeze my miles in before our family night at wash rec center, so i just did 5.  The weather felt awesome, but my stomach wasn't loving it (it never does at the end of the day).  I'm excited to do the vegas relay next week!

I got to swim with my fam, and was so dang proud of my 5 year old - He's swimming like a pro!  My hubby swam some laps as he wants to do a triathlon (first one) next month.

We ate at chuck a rama for the 2nd time this week - I hope i never say that sentence again.  All I crave are salads though (and gummy peach rings) and that buffet has one of the best i must say.  I also saw an 80 year old lady with the most defined calves i've ever seen on a woman period! It was inspiring.  We thought she was a guy when she was walking away.

Of course I'm gettting bigger, but I'm really feeling bigger today.  My ligaments are aching from being stretched out.  I'm also feeling my baby move a lot more which is what makes pregnancy worth it to me.  I love it so much.

My birthday!!!  I wanted to give my hips and joints a break, so I headed to wash rec to get some swim laps in.  Boy did i feel out of it.  A mile use to take me 30 to 35 min, and I did it in 45 min.  oh well.  I'm sure my belly created some drag:)

My friends had a lunch at the park for me (oh how i love not cooking) and it was amazing!  I am soooo lucky to have them.

Then jim took me shopping and then to dinner at night.  We ate at benja's and had the best food i've had in a while.  I die for curry, and it totally hit the spot that night.  Plus, everything tastes so much better when i don't have to make it!  I ate so much i didn't even have room for their mangoes and sticky rice dessert.

First of all, I must mention that this was the first race where my goal was to not work hard - too hard anyways.  I'm 22 weeks preggo, and just wanted to have a fun time with my girls. I'd been maintaining 10-12 mile runs on the weekends, and I knew my bod could most likely handle it it - I was definitely going to listen to my body and play it safe.  I also knew they would pick up the slack for me if needed:)  My all-girls st george running center team kicked butt!  I did not find a shortage of people who thought that I was being reckless for doing this, but I know my body and I've ran through 2 other pregnancies with super healthy babies.

We got to the race way late cause of an accident on I - 15, so our first runner was pretty much hitting the pavement when we got there.  The first thing we noticed - wow it was a little hot for November.  Wait it was way hot!  Our start time was 1:30 pm which didn't help either.  So runners 1-5 had an interesting time running their legs.  We found out shortly that it was wavering between 92-95 degrees!  And of course Vegas desert has no mountains, wind, trees, or shade.  It was a good thing we got to help our runners out!

At mile 3, we got heckled by a guys team that seem to be keeping pace with us, and we were trading off leads.  In fact one guy came over, and bet us $100 that we couldn't catch his next runner (which was the only girl on the team).  that had a good 2-3 min start on us, and our next runner was Aimee Langston.  He really didn't know that he was betting the wrong girl.  She is by far the most competitive person i know!  So we sealed the bet (it's vegas right?) and Aimee took off.  Of course she caught her, and gained a good min on her!  ha ha it really made our day, and humbled theirs:)Aimee ran her fastest 6 miles ever, even in the heat!

I was somewhat worried about my coming leg - I was runner 6, but it was still 92 degrees at 5 pm.  I only had 4.9 to run, but one of the things they warn u about when exercising pregnant is to avoid overheating (it's like getting in a hot tub).  Ahhhh.  so i was going to try out a mile, and switch out if i felt too hot.  1 mile in I turned a corner, and the road started heading into a canyon!  It was shaded for the entirety of my run and I felt sooo grateful:)  My body felt pretty good though the downhill pulled on my belly a bit and was a tad bit uncomfortable.  I averaged low 7's and it went by smoothly.

My evening leg didn't go as well.  I had eaten a bit more than i normally do between these legs, and it didn't sit right with me.  They rated it a 4.6 easy, but it sure did not feel easy.  The whole thing was inclined uphill.  My legs were chaffing (dang short shorts) and i kept burping up acid (the joys of pregnancy).  And then the stomach pain hit, and I struggled for 2 miles before finding a bathroom - well the nearest park tree.  At least it was dark.

At the next transition, I was overjoyed to find that ragnar had provided sleeping bags that were all over a grassy hill for their runners.  What a great feature!!!! I was extra exhausted and had no prob passing out for a couple of hours.

We had lots of fun passing hoards of runners the next day for our 3rd legs.  I had decided to let one of the ladies run some of mine since my hips were feeling fatigued, and it was rated 6.1 very hard.  It was a pretty decent hill on the dirt.  and it was hot again!  I jumped in for the last 2 miles.  I had passed 18 people and really wanted to make it 20(most people were walking), but 1 guy and 1 girl had taken a look a my pregnant belly when i tried to pass - they were not going to let that happen lol.  so they gave me a run for my money, and we really pushed out last mile in.  It was great and it felt so good to push my body a little bit.

At the finish line, I found 2 other pregnant ladies that had ran, and was happy to know that i wasn't the only crazy one.  It was such a fun day and was so happy to do it.  Baby got its first ragnar experience.  I'm always impressed with ragnar's organization and love relays sooo much!

My ladies rocked it, and we ended up averaging 7:30s for the whole thing:)

I really wanted to run today, but had to hold myself back.  i knew I'd need all the energy I could muster to shoot our zumba video in the evening.  I was very glad I waited because an hours workout took 2 1/2 hours to film with many do overs. Every song is done at maximum intensity.   Oh man whoever said Zumba wasn't a workout needs to come to my class for a bit.  i'm sore everywhere from it!  I'm so excited to see the video and so grateful for all the ladies that showed up and were loud and into it.

I'm hoping my husband jim doesn't hate me after today - I promised him that I would run with him for this race but it didn't actually happen that way.  It's hard to ignore my competitive side even though I'm pregnant.

Anyways I always love running this race and have done it almost every year for the past 8 years or so.  This was the first time with a baby in utero though.  They do such a great job with it - Lots of yummy food at the end, beautiful scenic zion,  as well as a finish line band and a unique little ghost town to explore.  Plus it is always good weather......

Except for this year.  Forcast said to expect 30s to 40s, and maybe some rain.  We got a bit more than that.  It was fine at the beginning but by mile 3 we were being pelted in the face by a snow storm.

I ran the first 3 with jim, he hasn't been training much but he does always surprise me.  Well he was a little more out of it this year - His first 3 miles ended up averaging 8:15- 8:30 with the downhill.  I was so itching to go and it was hard to hold back - I was feeling surprisingly fresh and ready to bust it out.  There weren't many girls this year though normally it is quite competitive.

When the snow hit, I had my excuse -  I just had to get to the end quickly cause I was miserable.  I was so cold already and not exerting enough energy to stay warm ( i didn't tell him that though).  So even though it was snowing I enjoyed passing a bunch of people though most weren't happy after seeing my preggo belly.  I had one lady that really pushed me to end.  I slowly inched on her over 2 miles, and then she challenged me for the last mile.  My last 3 miles surprised me as I pulled out 3 - 7:15s.  I wasn't exerting too much and the baby and my body felt good.  My race goal was 50 min or less and I got 49 min.  Totally happy with that!  2nd place finished only 2 min ahead of me.

I was absolutely freezing by the end, and our clothes were not there yet!  I didn't get to enjoy anything at the end as I jumped on the shuttle right away.

I'm so so so grateful that I've been able to run this long and I hope it continues 15 more weeks:)

Sooo long running stroller:(  As we were driving with it in the back of the truck, the wind actually managed to lift it up and out onto the road!  At 60 mph, it got a bit demolished.  Ugh that stroller made life a lot easier though I was going to have to buy a 2 seater soon anyhow.

I ran after class today and everything hurt!  I forgot my belly brace, thus the back and hip pain.  it was kind of miserable.  I ran in hurricane up to the lava mtn, and then back.  I haven't been doing hills, so I had a very challenging run.

I'm switching my class to a straight strength class to cater to me - I can't do abs anymore so I have a hard time showing them what to do.  I'm excited for the change!

As I was hugely sore from this week, I only taught my zumba class at night.  I sooo needed it as I had made a pan of lemon bars and had demolished at least half of them myself!  Oh they are sooooo my weakness.  I paid for it (or i should say my stomach paid for it) at class that night.

I really wanted a workout without having to twist and turn in my core, so I caught a spin class in the a.m.  I was so glad for the change!  I forget how awkward it is when you have a big belly in the way though.  It's a bit harder to lean over, and my legs are always hitting my belly.  I made it through 50 min of the class, and then finished my day in the pool swimming 800 m.  Oh how my body appreciates the relaxing water after all I put it through.

The best part of today is that I didn't have to cook at all hehe.  I got to go out for lunch and dinner (all on jim's work).  That is sad that this is such a highlight in my life.  I can't believe that food is still not tasting good to me!

I'm writing this ahead of time so I'll commit myself to the 7 miles i want to run!  I may do more but we will see:)

I woke up today to chaos in the house.  Well first off I should say that my husband was so sweet and let me sleep in til 11 am - I so needed it today.  But after that things kind of went downhill.  I woke to find that my 2 year old had gotten into the fish tank and taken out all the plants and decorations.  And then I noticed that there was nothing swimming in the water anymore expect a nice handful of fish food that he had put in there ("Isaac, where are the fish").  He points to a bowl that he had dumped dry nestle quick mis into.  "They are in there, swimming mom".  um yeah, I was a bit angry.  I'm sure I'll laugh about this someday.  until then r.i.p. my poor fish who died a violent death today.

Isaac had also eaten my entire packet of new gum, dumped all the dog food into the water bowl, as well as pooed his pants (he's been potty trained for a year).  It's been one of those days!  That's why I'm going to force myself to go run right now!  I need it.

I do love that Jim is planning on different races every month, and is going to do the sand hollow marathon in march!  He even let me make a workout schedule up for him which made me way happy.  It will be exciting to be able to cheer for him even though I won't be able to do it myself.

After seeing his daddy's schedule, my 5 year old Evan wanted one too.  He says he wants to train for the 5k during the St. george half - I'm so excited that he wants to run and workout, and that what I'm doing is rubbing off on him without me pushing him.  I hope he sticks with it.

Toquerville turkey trot - I had lots of fun running with my 5 year old evan today.  He did  so good!  He ran the whole 1.7 miles which is the farthest he's ever gone.  and it was all on trail.  He did fall almost at the beginning and it took some convincing to get him to keep going.  but he's a trooper ( I held his hand most of the way).   He beat most of the adults and almost all the kids:)

I ran more miles to make 5 and it was pretty hard.

After a family emergency, my mom ended up not coming down, so we ate thanksgiving dinner at the Spotted Dog Cafe in Springdale.  It was sooo good, and there was no clean up:)

I was lucky to get that much today.  The treadmill seems to make it easier on me for sure.  But my side hurt, as well as hip flexors.  I actually was only going to do 3 and did 4 instead.  I did .25 on incline 15 at the end just to really work my legs.

It was fereeeezing today outside - really brutal chilly wind.  So I ran on the good ole treadmill again today.  I got 5 miles in and they actually felt rather good - for a 10 min mile anyways!  I was surprised. I even did some minor speed intervals to keep it interesting. My side is still bugging a bit, but usually goes away halfway into it.

I taught strength class, but didn't do much of it as I was making them to jump boxes and lots of stuff that I can't do and needed to assist with. I reallly needed the workout, but burned tons of calories getting last min shopping done and playing host to my sis in law and neices and nephews.

I spent the rest of the day packing and getting ready for Star Valley trip. I love having my christmases in the snow with lots of fam around!

We spent the whole night traveling to star valley, and my legs were not happy with me by the time we got there. My feet were actually swollen - which has never happened to me before in pregnancy. I was even wearing my compression stockings??

I was shocked by how good I felt today! I got to run with my sweetie which only happens a couple times a year. He was nice enough to wait for me, but we still managed to average 8:30s to 9 min miles. I ran again without belly belt. We also ran in 20 deg mountain weather which didn't seem to faze either of us. nd running on the snow made for a cushioned run:) I walked for about a mile in the middle of it all, but ran about 4.5 of it.

We went bowling, and then to see the new Mission Impossible which made for a seriously fun filled day. i managed to get 2nd for bowling with a 148 (lost to my bro by 2 points.....dang it). I just wanted to beat him once cause he always wins.

1 hr turbokick - I managed to squeeze it in among all the festivities and overeating. I was pretty exhausted by the end.

I tried out the star valley gym and went 20 min on 3 different pieces of equipment. It all felt like an eternity. This is why i run - you just get it done.

I started out on the treadclimber - can i tell you i hate this thing. i stopped paying attention and one foot would dip lower than the other. I followed with 20 min on the broken elliptical runner, followed by the rower. i tried to do some strength afterwards, but just couldn't motivate myself to do much.

We traveled home from sv today, and I was so sad to go this time. This trip went way to quickly. Plus driving in the car just kills me at this point. Why do trips always seem to take longer on the way back?

I got up and did an hour of insanity (yes i am crazy) with my 5 year and and a bunch of nieces and nephews to keep me company:) I'm proud to say that i can still do a lot of it!

We went to the rec center afterwards and swam with the family and kids, and the pool actually felt pretty good for once. Either that or all my extra fat is insulating me nicely.

I weighed myself today and am at 143. So if I only gain 5-6 more pounds in the next 8 weeks I will be right where I want to be. I'm 32 weeks today!!!!

Oh crap, I can't believe I haven't blogged for all of december! There's no way I'm remembering all that, so I'll have to keep it brief. I really want to keep up so that I can compare notes with my next pregnancy (yes I'm thinking I'll prob at least have 1 more - crazy!!!) Not for at least 3 years though.

So I got up today and ran the annual new years day run with my friends, and it was such a blast. I managed to eke out some 8:30-9 min miles which is much easier to do when you are talking with someone. i ran without my belly belt and for some reason, everything hurts less. I got to run in my new frees and they felt way good!

We consumed our calories back in donuts and hot chocolate afterwards:)

I enjoyed a quiet peaceful evening watching a red box with my fam. We have had so much company and craziness around here, that it felt good to just relax on new years eve.
