Running Accomplishments:

-I'm an avid runner and crossfitter turned obstacle racer.  This year has brought on new and unexpected opportunities racing in Spartan races.  I'm in love with this new challenging part of my life.

Short-Term Running Goals:

I am working to become the best obstacle  racer I can be.  If that goes hand in hand with a National Championship title, than I will have met 2 of my goals/dreams.

 

Long-Term Running Goals:

Another sub 3 hour marathon

Sub 1:20 half marathon

I want to complete an ironman and some ultra races.

I Hope to be running until I'm 100.

 

Personal:

I have 2 boys (7 and 4) and a little girl (14 months) that keep me on my toes and make life worth living..  I've been married to my better half (Jim clark) for 10 years.  I teach fitness classes and am a personal trainer - my 2nd love is Zumba!  I love what i do!

I hold Obstacle Training Groups at my house on saturdays -I feel so blessed to be able to help others.

Run down snow canyon with Amber, Natalie, and some other speedy ladies.  it was so good to run with them, though my quads were hammered after.

I ran up and back the half marathon course and I was definitely feeling the altitude.  I was kind of discouraged running out as my times were way slow.  i didn't realize how much of an uphill that was til I turned around.  I flew on the way back!  It felt good.  2 x miles at 7:30 (up) and then 7:05 (down).

This race is seriously amazing!  It's so pretty, the course is just how i like it, and it is extremely well organized.  They give out over 100 raffle prizes, including a treadmill (though I didn't win anything). 

So I did better than i thought i would today!  It's still hard to look at my watch and see that my exertion level does not match my times from last year, but I'll get there again.

I made sure that I ate pre - race (banana), and also took a 1/2 of 2 gus on the course.  Also took salt pills.  My stomach handled it pretty well. 

I was a little nervous leaving Ivy as she still will not take a bottle.  She does pretty well for at least 2.5 hrs, so all i had to do was not bonk and she'd be fine. 

This course was on my old stompin ground in star valley, wy, and I really wanted to do well!  Based on times that I was running in training, I knew that my speed/endurance was just not there post baby yet.  I was thinking I was going to average 7:20-7:30s.  It really is weird to push your body like you used to, and not get the same result.  But I was going to try my hardest.  I knew that there were a couple ladies there that would give me some competition, so I had my work cut out for me. 

The beginning was at the top of a dirt road in the mountains, and warming up was a little tricky.  It was steep down both ways, so I kept it short.  I got to see a few friends including josse.  It was so good to catch up with her - and I knew that she was going to push me.

I decided to just run fast down the first 2 miles of hills as I was going to need a little bit of a boost to stay ahead of these ladies.  No one really challenged me right off, and I thought maybe I'd have a better day than I thought.  It's funny how down hills can make you feel fast and confident:)  after about mile 4, i was already thinking "oh crap - this is a long ways to race".  The middle miles were rough  -definitely more uphill than i thought they'd be, and it's been a while since I felt like quitting in a half marathon.  Number 2 lady passed me while i was tying my shoes, and then again after she took a bathroom break.  Josse caught me at around mile 10.  I knew I didn't have much more in me as it was taking me everything to finish.  I actually did try to speed up and catch her at the end, but she was speeding up too.  That was all I had left.

splits are 6:34, 6:39, 6:56, 7:16, 7:05. 7:13, 7:31, 7:40 (ouch), 7:38, 7:26, 7:28, 7:12, 7:01.   

So I guess I'm happy overall as I did better than my expected time and I guess it's respectable for just having a baby 4 mo ago.  3rd place and a sweet carved wooden plaque (and $25).

I was so proud of Jim for running the entire thing with a nagging sprained ankle!

quads were way sore!!!  what the heck.  It felt pretty good to get out and get blood flowing to them.  This race taxed me more than i thought it would.

This was such an amazing run (besides the fact that my ab trigger points were bugging - and my quads were still quite sore).  I got to run around palisades lake on a dirt road that was anything but flat (my favorite).  It was so incredibly beautiful, the weather was perfect, and the road was traveling.  I was pretty tired by the last 2 miles - I'm still feeling it from my race on saturday.

I attempted to actually run somewhat fast today.  My legs were feeling good, but my ab/back thing from last year completely froze up (it feels like a permanent side ache) - especially when I ran fast and/or downhill.  It was quite painful  getting home.  time to work on my trigger points.

5 is all i had time for, so I tried to speed up on the way home - did 2 miles at 6:40.   I had worked a bunch on trigger points, and was so happy to find that I could run today!  Time to be vigilant about working on them.

Taught zumba in the am, and then joined a zumba party for another 1.5 hrs of dancing.

Still "hung over" from lack of sleep and traveling home with 3 kids and myself yesterday - 500 miles.  Lots of fun!:(  Didnt feel up to running at all.

So a slow 5k time for me, but that's where I'm at right now post baby.  It's good to be running in the 6's again.  I felt pretty good for the run, but that's about as fast as I can push my legs right now.  Ran 5 very painful miles afterwards!  Where was my energy?  I'm wondering if i was still hammered from my half marathon - or the traveling - or the late nights in star valley.

My body, mind, etc were all exhausted today.  Lots of traveling and stress with my 3 kids.  Couldn't motivate myself to do anything.  Plus hubby was gone, and it would've been on the good old treadmill.  I will do better starting tomorrow!
